A beer that the New Hampshire General would truly be proud of. If you like porter’s and you’re in the area, i strongly suggest this beer. The hint of chocolate gives it a unique flavor...and it’s won awards

This is becoming one of my staples. A good session porter, dark brown in color with a light tan head and ruby highlights. Aroma is of nice chocolate and roasted malt, slightly sweet and fruity. Flavor is all malt, mostly chocolate and a touch of toasted bread, with subtle roast. I used to be not so fond of porters but this definately helps me eases away from that mindset.

Deep brown colour, tan head. Sweet chocolately malts over deeply caramelized malts with a touch of licorice and anise in back. Herbal/earthy hops over a sweet earthy malt base. Hops are a touch resinous, which matches the deep blackstrap molasses character very well. Bittersweet chocolate and earthy/fruity Northern Brewer type hops. Deep malty/earthy finish with a bit of licorice/anise over soft bitterness. Great pint.

Nice dark color, nice amberish color on bottom. Good aroma. Thin white head. Flavorful and easy to drink.

Tap at brewpub. Black body with a generous long-lasting tan head. Full bodied filled with plenty of dark malts. Not a lot of roastiness flavour, just a lot of dark malts with a light fruity taste (dates) and a touch of smoke. Superior porter, simple but effective. Very nice body. Named after a local war here from the 18th century. If John Stark was to raised from the dead I’m sure he’d say “It’s an honour to have such a nice beer named after me” and “why are these black people walking around like free men?”.

Tap at Millys. Nice deep dark brown almost black and nice. Head ok lace. Aroma is intense fresh dark chocolate- and toasted malts, almost burned malts, slight char- brown nutty malts, and a slight herbal hop kick. A little roast in the flavor- lots of chocolate malts, nutty, toffee, light fruitiness, adn a good caramel middle- nice smooth finish. Great Porter.

From a growler purchased at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown, almost black with a healthy off white head. Weak & spotty lacing. Palete was a bit thin & dry, but smooth & creamy. Flavor is light coffee with some semi sweet chocolate. Very enjoyable. A great session porter.

Tap at Millys. Nice deep dark brown almost black color. Thick head that left substantial lacing. Aroma is intense dark chocolate, burned malts, slight char- brown nutty malts, and coffee. A little roast in the flavor- lots of chocolate malts, nutty, toffee, light fruitiness, and a good caramel middle- nice smooth finish. The best brew in the session. The General would be proud of this beer!! It pared well with my steak tips.

New England Road Trip Easter ’05 with MartinT, tiggmtl and Rastacouere, beer #19. Small sample at the brewpub, also in the company of Volgon and brewer Dirtymike. Deep walnut with just a trace of light showing through, dark thin head and a modicum of lacing...sweet, dark maltiness dominates the nose with a bit of coffee...sweet front, oatmeal-brown sugar...huge bitter roastiness late, full body...along with the IPA, my favorite.
