COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ploughman’s is an English-style, malty, dark ale with a flavorful roasty character and a slight hint of cherries. The beer was aged for several weeks over 200 pounds pounds of sweet and tart cherries giving it a subtle fruit flavor that melds well with its malt character.

Pours a solid dark brown bordering on black with a minimal tan head that actually leaves a bit of lace in its wake. Smells of chocolate and an almost medicinal cheery aroma for the most part. A bit of caramel and butter are faint in the background, but this one is mostly chocolate and ludens cough drops. Taste is lots of caramel, light chocolate, butter and a faint tart cherry taste. Medium body, light level of carbonation, earthy mineraly mouthfeel. I really wanted to rave about this one, but I just couldn’t. The cherry flavor is barely there and what I do find is tart almost medicinal. Meh.

Growler. Black pour with a tan head. Aroma is slight of sour cherries, coffee, cream, graham cracker, and dark chocolate. Flavor is sweet molasses, brown sugar, caramel cream, and a distinct light fruitiness. Palate is silky, though very thin for the style, finishing clean and creamy.

Growler at PPRBSG from jcwattsrugger. Pours a deep dark woody amber almost brown. Aroma is a dusty nutty chocolate- with some dried cherries and pits. Chocolate is light - light roast as well in the flavor- some slight dark cherry skin and some pittiness, mineral and herbs in a drying finish. Ok.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub with the brewer. A popular one, with cherry that adds to the taste but is not in your face cherry, rather it adds to make the character of a solid porter. Lacey, unfiltered. Still tolerable sourness there.

SLightly boozy aroma, woody, and somewhat cherry. Apearance is dark brown with a head that is thin and only present around the rim of the glass

On tap at Millys Tavern. Pours a rich dark brown color with ruby edges and a small brown head. Aroma is malty with a hint of cherry. Palate is smooth, a bit on the dry side and low carbonation. Taste is malty with light chocolate, vanilla, milk and a hint of cherry. Cherry could have been a tad stronger.

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2009 on tap-pours a rich light brown head and dark brown color. Aroma is nice, mild cherry, dark malt. Taste is dark malt-coffee/roasty, hint of cherry with some twang. OK carbonation. 3.0 growler 2 weeks later-cherry comes through on the nose better, and tart cherry on the taste. Nice, mellow. 3.3
