3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask (gravity dispense). Beer #14 at Bedford Beer Festival 2005. A copper coloured beer with the emphasis on nutty malt. Some smoky notes and lots of toffee. Powerful fruity malt flavour, with caramel and some chocolate nuances. Reminded me of Caramac chocolate bar (do they still make that). Well made to the style. I just prefer a touch more bitterness to balance things out.

A Mes rate:
Gravicask. Citric hoppy nose, mainly grapefruit. Nice dust and creamy mellow hoppy flavour. Straight down the line but a typically scrumptious Milton offering.

On gravity at Swindon BF 30/10/08. Deep gold in colour with next to no head. Sweetish malt aroma with orange fruit, caramel and some spicy hops. Flavour was also sweet, with marmalade, fruit cake and grassy hops. A bit overpowering.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in April 2000. Cask, gravity dispense. Clear mahogany in colour with a loose white head. Strong over ripe banana aroma, long in intensity. Thick creamy mouthfeel and no lacing. Mixed complex malts give a juicy maltloaf base with rich, sweet creamy toffee pecan pie, mashed banana and maple syrup. There might have been a faint whiff of hop resins in the very brief aftertaste but heavy malt rule here. Finish is rich & heavy on the malt with almost alcoholic rum like notes tasting warming and sweet in the mouth. A superb new English Strong Ale, tasting far stronger and ABV suggests. Highly recommended in cask and worth seeking out. A very popular ale at the festival.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Gravity, Banbury beer festival. Bright gold, translucent white head. Black current, black berry, a bit of husky grain. Light marmalade and berry sweetness, a little thin for all the sweetness, and kind of hot. Not quite up to the usual standards for Milton.
I had this on the Thursday of the festival. I wonder if it settled down and mellowed by the time Fin and Glen had it? Have to find it again...
