Aroma: milk chocolate, toasted malts, caramel, dark, dried and sweet fruits. Appearance: dark brown, no head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: light bitters continue, coffee, chocolate again, dark berries. Overall: very decent Imperial Stout, not too overpowering, well-balanced, complex for the low ABV. 4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tasted this at the Glasgow Real Ale Festival at the Briggait on the 26th June 2015. For me it was best beer of the festival. Cask, gravity dispense. Dull black with a thin buff head which rapidly vanished. Cracking malty aroma with strong sweet mincemeat pie notes mixing with treacle. Smooth oily thin mouthfeel with no lacing at all. Dark complex malts give booming sweet notes of treacle toffee, liquorice, dark chocolate and syrupy dates all in the mouth. Could not detect any any hop resins in the aftertaste just a hint of roast grain. Malt comes back with a bang for a smooth malty, overall sweet finish with silky South American dark chocolate, raisins, plums and red liquorice flavours present in the palate. Now we’re talking - a superb mix of sweet flavours from an Imperial Stout - very little in the way of drier roast notes present! So easy to drink despite the high ABV. This is one to look out for if you enjoy dark malty beer on the sweet side!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Slightly flat black beer with a filmy head. Sweet aroma of dried fruit. Dried fruit and malt taste. The liquorice comes through in the aftertaste. It’s nice but I couldn’t have a lot of it.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at the lovely Devonshire Arms. Somewhere between darkest brown and black. Opaque with pretty much no head. The aroma is mostly liquorice with a bit of smoke. The bittersweet taste is right in the money: liquorice, raw wood, chocolate, salt. Intense and beautiful.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cask at the Pembury Tavern - London. Pours oily black with a foamy, khaki head. Lots of dark fruits in the nose, some chocolate, minimal roast. Medium sweet flavor with further dark fruits, grapes, berries, raisins, slight molasses, gooey chocolate. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Nicely balanced finish with more ripe, dark and dried fruits, raisin and berry, some prune, fig, mellow cocoa and roast, slight earthy bitterness. Good stuff overall. Very drinkable.
