2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask at The Hope. It pours dark brown with a small beige head. The nose is earth, leather, wood and a touch of chocolate. The taste is earth, leaf, leather, spice, light bitterness and some dark fruit with a dry, leathery finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. So-so.

On cask at The Devonshire Arms. Pours a very dark brown colour with a thin white head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and caramel. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Nice and dry to finish.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
A roasty rather than a caramely mild with adequate bitterness. Quite pleasant if you like that kind of thing. Personally I think the burnt flavour is overpowering in such a low gravity beer and would go for caramel every time.
I donít know about anybody else, but I find Miltonís pump clips less than helpful. If the landlordís out and the 18-year old barmaid hasnít a clue about beer then youíre floundering as to what youíll get once you part with your hard earned cash. It surely wouldnít hurt to add íMildí or íBitterí etc. where appropriate would it?

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tasted this at the Troon Beer Festival in October 2009. Cask, handpump dispense. Dark ruby black in colour with a open buff head. Mocha coffee notes in the strong aroma. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give an initial burnt toast note which fades to give sweet juicy raisin fruit. Short note of dusty, earthy hops but really short lived. Sweetness returns to give a malty fruity finish with dry cocoa powder evident. An excellent session mild.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
[Gravity cask at Chippenham Beer Festival] Brown with a negligible head & a light sparkle. A bit roasty, a bit malty, a bit chewy, a bit of port, a bit of gravy. Definitely dry though. OK.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at the Pembury. Had this as a side by side with the Mammon. Pours a cola colour, with a small beige head. Aromas of light roasted malt and toffee. Taste mostly sweet toffee and light roasted malt, with a touch of orange rind and chocolate.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask conditioned at The Turf Tavern, Oxford. Chestnut with white head. Rich, malty, fruity mild, dark chocolate notes with a fireside, coal dust hint. A plummy fruitiness emerges. Probably a little too much going on for a mild but very pleasant in itís own right.
