Thick black beer with red-ish head. Slightly oily palate and very heavy on the burnt flavours with a long bitter finish. Good beer but perhaps lacks subtlety.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask at the Pembury Tavern. Pours opaque brown with a thin, beige head. Good aroma, with the vanilla notes just rising above the roasted malt foundation. Flavor is quite nice. Medium sweetness with semi-sharp, mineral malts, hints of ripe, almost tart fruits, vanilla, faint roast and very delicate hops. Light in body with fine carbonation. The finish seems to be sweeter than the initial taste, with all the preceding characteristics in addition to some maple syrup, along with some light warmth and hints of booze. Overall not outstanding, but very good.
