A deeply flavoured oat stout, one of the blackest beers around with a remarkable amount of flavour.

Cask at the Pembury Tavern. Pours opaque brown with a thin, beige head. Good aroma, with the vanilla notes just rising above the roasted malt foundation. Flavor is quite nice. Medium sweetness with semi-sharp, mineral malts, hints of ripe, almost tart fruits, vanilla, faint roast and very delicate hops. Light in body with fine carbonation. The finish seems to be sweeter than the initial taste, with all the preceding characteristics in addition to some maple syrup, along with some light warmth and hints of booze. Overall not outstanding, but very good.

CAsk @ Cloisters. Black with ruby tint gorgeous. Yummy blackcurrant, clove, coal, and black cherry mash in the aromas. Smooth soft palate. Delicious flavors with black cherry, tobacco in the tannic finish, sweet black licorice middle. Excellent base of acidity and chocolate malt without being toasty. Absolutely delicious and sessionable.

Cask at the Pembury Tavern on 30th June 2010. Thick, black body with a greyish head. Strong vanilla aroma and plenty of roast malts giving lingering coffee notes and some bitterness. On very good form in the pub, with a smooth but delightfully thick texture. Excellent.

Cask - The White Lion, Norwich. Pours black with a fine frothy beige head. Sweet roasted malt aromas, some dry coffee tones and a bit of dark fruit. Initial fruit flavours leading to dry roasty malt notes and a coffee tone finishing with liquorice and a lasting chocolate aftertaste. A relatively soft mouthfeel but bit lacking in the body department for a stout.

Cask@Pembury Tavern. Deep ambery brown colour, small brown head. Aroma is lots of butter, some roasted malt and black coffee. Flavour is roasted malts, toffee, mild butter and also some black coffee. Quite strange at first, but then turns quite mellow and balanced.
