3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask, handpump at The Devonshire, Cambridge Sat 14th April 2012 with Loz Nice bitter with a very slightly earthy tinge and quality to it, in fact a touch of wet warm woodland leaps out at me. Fruity with a bit of maltiness and some caramel showing, the hoppiness is present but this is more your straightforward bitter and to be fair it is taking a hammering from the Saturnalia. My Bottom Line:
This mainly fruity Bitter otherwise pairs caramel malts to leafy hops before sharing light tartness within a mildly bitter finish.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the gleaming copper.
-This is very drinkable, but too fruity for my tastes in the style.
-The fruitiness does not come from the hop bill here.
On cask at The Devonshire Arms, Cambridge.

Cask at the Pembury Tavern E8. A coppery coloured bitter. I may have been spoilt by some very high quality beers drunk earlier in the evening, or this may have been subpar in condition but I thought this was pretty poor. Lacking bitterness, I’m not a huge fan of this hop variety, hints of veg and dishwater.

UPDATED: OCT 18, 2012 Cask; brown, hints of gold, thin head; pleasant yeasty, fruity aroma; smooth, malty, bitter, dry, with a slight citrus tang; bitter, flowery hop finish; well balanced, flavoursome, tasted stronger than it is; a good sound bitter.

Cask (Devonshire Arms, Cambridge)
6+ Sweet caramelly aroma, slight pungent hops too.
3 Deep amber, brief loose head.
6+ Marzipan retronasals. Slight mushroominess.
4 Well balanced. Sweet cakey malts with a nice sticky resin bitterness.
13 Very solid bitter, but pales compared to the crispness of the Saturnalia beside it.
