Pours a nice amber body with a large head. Nice retention that brings back the froth again and again. Caramel, and fruit in the aroma and flavors of caramel as well. A pretty tastey brew, but a little too malty for an amber ale.

Smooth beer. In between their pale ale and IPA. Light-medium body with a hop foundation but nothing strong.

A full bodied malty amber beer with some nice hops to balance (piney hops). There is another flavor there that almost is a hint of peat? Serving: Bottle

On tap at the brewery. Golden pour. Malty aroma. A little sweet with a slight bitter finish. Ok beer but did not stand out from the other MBC beers during our tastings.

American ambers tend to either be slightly darker versions of APA or beers that try to pass off lack of hops as maltiness. This is neither of those; it is a legitimately big and malt beer--and I like it. Nose is mile, just a touch fruity but a hint of earth. It’s a bit on the sweetside but that sweetness is expressed in the form of intense, almost exaggerated maltiness. The carbonation is perhaps a touch too strong for its full and slightly sticky texture but that is a small complaint. This is a nice change of pace from typical American offerings.

Originally reviewed: 10/22/09. Poured into my pint glass. Pours a slightly murky copper color with a thin off-white head on top. Dissipates quickly leaving little lace in its wake. Smells of toffee, the woods, and big fresh sourdough bread. The body is full and hearty. Nice mellow crispness to this due to a moderate amount of carbonation. Very mellow bready flavor with a touch of honey on the finish. Bitterness is low on this one. Slight sweet quality to it. I really like the aftertaste. Like I just ate some fresh-buttered dark bread. With the low ABV, I could drink a few of these. Good beer.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured a nice red/amber with a light fine heade and lacing that lingered throughout the drink. Aroma was of sweet malts with a slight fruitiness twinge. The taste was of malts with a slight roast hue and moderate hop finish. Palate was decent. Overall, a decent amber lager.

12 oz bottle. Pours deep amber with a small white head. Aroma is nicely malty, biscuit, a bit doughy, touch of cookie sweetness, caramel and toffee. Flavor is much the same, lots of maltiness, sweet caramel and doughy notes. Finishes a touch hoppy and crisp. Medium slightlyu creamy body and a crisp carbonation. Good for the style.
