2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 noncaloric (684) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 7, 2009
Clear, effervescent dark gold with an everlasting off-white head. Aroma combines light, worty malts with a strongly vegetable element reminiscent of asparagus. Flavor somewhere between spicy and skunky, cinnamon, grass, dusty cellar, sulfur. No single flavor is off, but they come together disharmoniously. Medium body, effervescent on the palate.

Bottle at the Casanova Beer Cave festival. Light gold pour with a foamy white head. Grain, earth, and a light hoppy finish. Just okay.

On tap at Milwaukee Ale House. Poured brighter golden with a short cap of white head. The aroma picked up toasty pale and fruity notes with hints of honey.. picked up a hint of pineapple on the back. The flavor found sweet pale malts and lesser caramel at the core with light herbal and hay-like bitterness around.. finished very sweet and candy-like. Higher carbonation on the palate, and again, it was very sweet.. this would’ve been considerably better if it dried out some.

Amber with yeast floaties. Toasted malts, earthy hops, and a touch of vinegar(?-old/bad bottle?). Even, toasted malts. Some cardboard. Quite dry, with a low to medium hop finish. Pretty choppy and not altogether smooth and crisp for a lager. Medium mouthfeel.

Pours a clear copper with enough white head and a sour aroma. Typical of a lager. Meh. I am thinking I don’t like lagers much. Flavor is sour and palate is apple acid. I don’t think I like lagers much at all.
