COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This pitch black milk stout is teaming with rich roasted malt and coffee flavors. The addition of milk sugar tames these intense flavors with a silky sweetness. A very easy drinking, full bodied beer. This beer gets its’ name from the Milwaukee landmark, the Allen-Bradley clock tower, who locals fondly call “Polish Moon”.

Tasted on 4/10/12 from a capped 12oz bottle received in a BIF. Pours an opaque cola brown with an average tan head that leaves fairly thick lacing. The nose is classic milk stout with a creamy chocolate aroma, and a hint of nutty dark chocolate with some roasted coffee underlying. The flavor is mostly dry with the creamy chocolate up front, moving to nutty dark chocolate and a touch of roasted coffee bean bitterness. The body is full and creamy with average, very smooth carbonation, and a long creamy chocolate and lightly nutty finish.

On tap at the brewery. This is this brewery’s strength, a really nice milk stout with a nice sweetness but also a mellowing bitterness.

12 ounce bottle that pours a dark black cola color with a thin tan head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of roast, chocolate, some vanilla, and a touch of lactose. All the aromas were in the flavor, but just a weaker version, chocolate however did stand out more than the other flavors. Thin on the palate for a stout, almost reminded me of a soda.

On tap at the Milwaukee Brewing Co. Pours near black with a creamy brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet dark grains with some sweet creamy chocolate and a hint of roast. Flavor begins with sweet chocolate and sweet dark bread with a hint of backing roast and coffee to cut the sweetness.

Flight on tap at the brewpub (Milwaukee, WI). Pours a rich blackish hue, not opaque, with some ruby notes dancing on the edges and in the body. A frothy tannish head sits atop and stays as a firm thick ring, laces well. Aromas are dashes of cocoa and roasty malts, gentle roasted barley and coffee, touches of sweetness, caramel, biscuits. Toast, firm coffee roast comes on as it warms more. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, offering, coating the palate with a firm roasted ashy barley up front, toast and roast, coffee. Middle gets a bit more creamy, some toffee, gentle cocoa on the sweeter side of things. Nice and inviting, finish gets a touch dry and roasty, yet some firm malt body still sticks, making it a firm feel. It’s not the best representation of the style, but it’s inviting and drinkable.

Draft at Milwaukee Brewing. Pours a deep brown/black with a tan head. Nose is moderately sweet, caramel and roast. Light coffee notes and cocoa as well. On tasting, light sweetness accentuating the body, medium full. More of the cocoa, faint lactose and roasty malts. drying finish overall. Clean and really quite nice.

(bottle) Pours black with a medium sized tan head that leaves a solid amount of lacing. Aroma is a bit off putting, but not wholly offensive, with pleasant scents of cocoa, dark chocolate, and roasted malt that are interspersed with not so pleasant scents of canned black olives, Ortega taco sauce, and sour cream. Smells like a weekday taco night at any average Midwestern middle class home, and it’s truly bizarre. Flavor is slightly improved, with flavors of chocolate, roasted malt, and perhaps some coffee. Towards the finish, there is a twang of sourness that interrupts the flavor before it transitions to a fairly solid roasty finish. Mouthfeel is quite smooth and full. Overall this is a strange beer, but it will remain memorable due to the fact that it resurrected scents of my childhood dinners which have remained forever burned into my olfactory bulb.

On tap at Milwaukee Ale House. Poured deep brown with a well-retained, sticky, creamy, dark beige head. The aroma picked up sweet milk chocolates and coffee with moderate roast to ‘em.. lovely 2nd wave of dark sugars.. great stuff! The flavor held serve.. sweet, roasty coffee throughout, paired with fresh earthy bitterness.. roast and husky malt sourness stuck on the long, warm, tasty finish.. everything worked well together. Medium-bodied and quite dry on the palate.. well-balanced with a smooth flow through the mouth.. I need more of this.

Bottled. Poured deeper brown with a short cap of beige head. The aroma picked up sweet lactose notes and milk chocolate, giving a sweet cake-like impression.. nothing not to like here. The flavor found sweet milk chocolate and lesser dulce de leche.. a touch of cocoa and creme brulee on the edges.. sweet finish with a lot of tasty residual sugar. Medium-bodied at most on the palate.. a bit scratchy at times.. didn’t feel great, but it was tasty beyond that.
