On tap at Qbrick, Osaka. Pours hazy copper with no head. Good hoppy aroma followed by fruity caramel flavours. Some citrus. Very decent.

Bottle. Pours dark amber with a medium white head. Rich in caramel malt and toffee. There’s a subtle hoppyness but low in bitterness in the mouthfeel. A slightly dry finish. A pretty good amber ale. (RateBeer Sydney Xmas Gathering 2009 - cheers TimE!)

My pick of three Minamishinshu beers at a Sydney gathering courtesy of Japanese beer ambassador, TimE. Bronze with a lasting head. Smells very sweet but to style - caramels, stewed fruits. Medium bodied and nicely creamy. All malt in the mouth, with minimal bitterness. Figs and toffees. Like the Apple Hop, it’s saved from being too sweet by a nice dry finish. A pretty good example of one of my least favourite styles. (Ratebeer Sydney Xmas gathering under the harbour bridge, 2009. Beer courtesy of TimE - thanks buddy.)

Canned at Shinshu Osake Mura (Nagano Sake Village), Tokyo (5.5%). Hazy pale amber, small head. Light roasty malt together with grapefruity hops fight for attention. Slimmed with careful roasty malt, a bit of salt. Very mild and easy going, fairly low bitterness.

Tap at the Griffon in Shibuya. Aroma: fruity, hoppy, with cherries. Fruity, malty flavor, with caramel. Nice, rounded malt. A bit fruity, with great balance. A bit too light, but interesting. Fruity, mild, complex. Very subtle but nicely done.

Very drinkable amber. Nutty taste with a dry finish. Slight taste of copper and caramel. Worth a try.

0,33 l bottle, thanks larsga. Lovely amber color, lots of hoppy aroma. Malty sweet, a bit medical, a bit yeasty.

Medium offwhite head. Amber body. Hoppy harmonic caramelly firm malty aroma with citric notes. Deep firm medicinal mango hop taste with malty resiny notes. Dry medicinal aftertaste. (0.33l bottle, which, as far as I can see, says "Minamishinsyu Anba Eru" and "Komagataku Brewery".)

330 ml bottle. Dark brown with reddish hues. Tall white head. Rich acidic plummy and malty aroma. Quite complex. Cranberries. Some yeasty notes. Medium-bodied. Rich maltiness. No noticeable hops, but a huge malt complexity.

UPDATED: SEP 19, 2007 My Bottom Line:
This highly competent Amber Ale boasts spicy orange and devoted caramel maltiness in a joyous and quenching osmosis which ends in an apt resinous hop bitterness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the clear amber.
-The nose is quite attractive and the hoppiness so fruity and zesty, it also suggests the use other spices.
-Balance is achieved throughout.
-This is right on style, and crafted with care; another quality Minamishinsyu product.
-Willamette and Cascade are judiciously used to good effect, but as Tim says, a little more bitterness would go a long way.

On tap at the brewery restaurant.
