Bottle from Trader Joeís in Rochester NY under Boatswain chocolate stout. The aroma consists of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, coffee, and a touch of roast. It pours a dark brown with some faint orange highlights and a small beige head. The flavor starts with a quick dose of coffee and then some chocolate. The finish has some coffee and cream. Itís medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation. This has more coffee than chocolate.

Draft @ Minhas. Pours black with minimal head. Light roasty chocolate. Pretty good. One of the better Minhas beers out there.

Had as Boatswain Chocolate Stout. Comes out of the bottle a beautiful warm sable with a very thick and rather persistent tan head. Aroma has roast malt, chocolate and coffee notes with a hint of caramel. Smoky flavor builds on a roast malt core with coffee, semi-sweet chocolate and caramel plus a hint of horehound. Smooth, firm texture is quite fizzy and lively. Boatswain or bunny, itís a good choice.

Not particularly remarkable, but certainly drinkable. I was a little weirded out by the bottle design, but the pour is more roasty than chocolatey, which I enjoyed. Decent for the small price tag.

You know those cheap ass jumbo chocolate bunnyís you find at the dollar store or in the clearance bin at walgreens a week after Easter. This is the beer version. Lots of cheap malt, a bit of cocoa. Rotten chocolate milk. medium thickness. More alcohol than the 5.5% would indicate. Itís basically the chocolate stout of the malt liquor world.

I had the Bad Hare Chocolate Stout alias version. On the label it says: "A dark and silky rich stout loaded with chocolate flavors. Is there chocolate in my beer or beer in my chocolate?" Not quite what the label says, not chocolatey at all, heavy on the carbonation, not interesting at all. coffee, roasty, black, minimal head, medium bitterness, average carbonation,

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours black. Pretty good sized dark brown head. Aroma is very similar to a dry stout aroma with some sour and roasted malty notes. Taste is pretty avg. Not much chocolate taste in my opinion. I would consider this more roasty than anything else. If you like drinking mild coffee, this would be more up your alley. Body for this one is off kilter for the style. Somewhat on the lighter side for a stout and more of a lively carbonation feel than what a stout should be, which I think adds to bitter roasty coffee flavors instead of more chocolate profile with flavors. Overall itís a cheap beer at Trader Joeís. I knew this was a Minhas Brewery beer (since it said "Monroe, WI" on the bottle. So I was wary...just wanted to give it a try since is said it was a Chocolate Stout and the price was only 2.99 for a 22oz. Wonít ever buy this one again...but it could have been much worse considering Iíve had some rough beers from Minhas in the past.
