3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Black with a nice creamy mocha head. Aroma of a fair bit of roast, coffee, some ash, and a resin note. After beer warms a bit bitter chocolate flavor comes out as well, and some caramel. Taste sweet and chocolaty, lovely in itself but not quite straight "stout". I think possibly sweet stout or milk stout would be a better classification. Other than that, a nice beer. Sweet to the point that you probably wouldn’t want another, but not a bad desert. Chocolate on palate.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Santa
Pours a solid black with a smallish tan head.Aromas heavy on the roast and coffee and light on the chocolate as advertised. Bits of caramel and dark fruit round out the nose. The flavor is a slightly sweet roasty coffee malt beverage. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet roasty mouthfeel. Decent beer, but a bit one dimensional and not nearly enough chocolate of malty sweetness to make me think of chocolate.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours dark brown with a big rocky head. Looks like muddy root beer. Aroma is baking chocolate, soy sauce, and a hint of smoke. Medium to light palate. Taste is soy sauce, cocoa, burnt coffee. Kiss of piney hops. Meh. Incredible deal at $2 for a bomber though.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber from Trader Joe’s listed as: Boatswain Chocolate Stout. Deep black pour with thin light brown head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, caramel. Tastes are along the same lines with the chocolate most prominent. Kind of a milky chemical vibe. Not horrible, but isn’t improving as it warms. For only 3 bucks... still would pass.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is a very flavorful beer with a delightful chocolate nose and initial flavor and a roasted malt finish. If you are a fan of this style of stout, you must try this one.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma is of cocoa and almost a lager smelling base. Not the best aroma for a stout. Taste is very chocolate. A bit watery palate for a stout. Cocoa dominates. Not too much roasted malt flavor to balance. Dry carbonated finish. Drinkable stout, but not the best.

16 nov 2013, bottle. Dark brown. Nose is burnt toast and wet grain, faintly sweet, syrup. Med body and faintly fizzy. Toasted malt, slightly sweet. Rather well balanced. Burnt finish. Nice enough.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cocoa aroma and flavor dominates this light bodied stout. Roast and coffee malts unite with bitterness in a supporting role. Picked up the bottle for under $4 with the name of Chocolate Bunny by Rhinelander Brewing. Goes well with Toscano Black Pepper Cheese.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tallahassee, Fl - Trader Joe’s - 22 oz bomber - labeled as Boatswain Chocolate Stout. Pours black as coal with a sticky khaki colored head that leaves plenty of thick lacing. Aroma has some light hints of powdered cocoa; some grainy notes. Flavor is decidedly sweet with some baker’s unsweetened chocolate, a hint of potting soil, some day old black coffee. Mouthfeel could be a tad thicker. Pretty solid fr $2.49!
