UPDATED: APR 28, 2013 Pours black with a tan was that dissipates. Nice lacing but not sticky. Smells of cocoa and coffee. Tastes cocoa up front with strong roast, finished with tangy hops. Pretty good but I’ve had better.

Left in our fridge by someone: Pours dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma is milk chocolate and coffee. Taste is not too sweet. Quite chocolatey. Nice mild coffee notes. Light roast throughout. Quite a good beer for Minhas.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass and a mug. Basically the same in both glasses. The appearance was a dark brown color close to black with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace leaving some light lacing sticking around the glass. The smell had a slight roasty coffee to sweet chocolate malt running really tight together. The taste was mainly the same thing with a slight roasty caramel showing a side note to the flavor. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was semi - smooth leading into a fair amount of malty notes over my tongue. Overall, I say this was a decent stout, probably could have another go at this.

Bottled as Boatswain Chocolate Stout from Trader Joe’s. It poured dark brown with a little bit of head and foamy, soapy, tan-colored lace. The aroma was exactly as fairly average as chocolate stout goes; there was malt, coffee, chocolate. The flavor was the same, although the coffee was dominant over the other flavors, and there was a little bit of hop burn on the back end. Not an amazing or unique chocolate stout, but not a bad one.

Good color & slight dry cocoa powder smell. Had a few bottles left over from a dark beer tasting. Very good dark beer for those who are afraid of the dark/stouts.

Pours black with a tan head. Chocolate, caramel and malt aroma. Chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, caramel and dark fruit flavor. Medium light body and average carbonation. Flavor seems a bit off. Caramel and roasted malt finish.

Bomber. Clear darkest brown, thin oily mocha head. Muddled aroma of dark roast, milk chocolate, some black licorice and coffee. Taste is thinner dark roast and slick syrupy sweet chocolate and not much else. Soft carbonation, medium bodied, lightly hopped. Below average but still drinkable. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

Hazy medium brown, aroma is sort of a thin, slightly chocolatey but a bit estery stout, definitely reminding me of certain Caribbean stouts. Kinda tastes like Caribbean stout, too, with chocolate syrup, esters and a thin body.

Black pour from 22oz bottle. Cocoa milk aroma although subtle. Ccocolate taste but just seems a little fake. Average.
