This beer pours an amazingly rich deep black color with a chocolate milk colored head. It has a rich dark chocolate aroma. It has a slightly more bitter taste than most stouts but is still a good flavorful beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Chocolate syrup, coffee, and raisin nose, moderately strong. Black, medium beige head, good lacing. Medium body, but watery. Chocolate covered raisin flavor. Finishes with smoke and ash.

Bottle. Dark pour with tan head. Smells of chocolate and slight coffee. Tastes of the same with a lingering bittersweet finish. Decent stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Boatswain Chocolate Stout from TJ’s- as always their beer is great value but just average in every other way. This one seems to be marketed under many guises- one description read: "is there beer in my chocolate or chocolate in my beer". Super strong notes of chocolate on the nose and palate- some coffee and earthiness in there as well. Decently balanced with 66 IBU’s. Mouthfeel a bit thin for a stout- more porter like to me. Overall pretty drinkable- definitely an easier going stout than many I have had this winter. For 2.99 would buy again.

Picked up a bottle at Trader Joes. Pours a dark brown almost black with thin tan head that fades quickly. Pretty good chocolate aroma with a little sweet caramel hint. Taste is definitely dark chocolate with some coffee. Minimal bitterness at the end. Not overly sweet. A little to thin. Would like it to have some more body. Pretty good sweet stout but not amazing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Boatswain Chocolate Stout has a thick, soapy, beige head, a very dark-brown (essentially, black) appearance, some stray, ascending bubbles appearing on the sides of the glass, and a thin lacing sheen. The aroma is of sweet, malty, dark bread, char, a touch of chocolate, and some cream. Taste is of those elements, with a mellow bitterness. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth, and Boatswain Chocolate Stout finishes semi-wet and easy drinking. RJT

Nice caramel color head on a pitch tar body. Wonderful flavor. Lots of coffee over tones with cacoa powder rally coming they on the tongue. Great stout. Tastes like an oatmeal stout with chocolate syrup infused. Its worse quality is exactly how sweet it is. Dark chocolate, coffee liquor flavor

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2012 Thirsty Troll Beer Fest. Bottle pours a viscous deep brown/black with a tan head. Aroma is huge chocolate, light roast, and plenty of lactose. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of caramel, marshmallow, and hints of coffee. Overall body is full, relatively sweet, and finishes with some roasted bitterness.

22oz bomber. Rather respectable appearance, deep brown-black with a big lacy rusty beige head. Sweet chocolate aroma, chocolate milk, additive style chocolate. Medium bodied and about as inoffensive as you can imagine a Minhas product being. Approaching Milk Stout with all the sugary sweetness. Rather simple and subdued, but still a complete surprise that it’s even tolerable considering who brews it. Chocolate covers it up maybe. Either way, decent enough macro Milk Stout, lots of cocoa nib character.

Pours very dark brown with a huge foamy tan head and a chocolate and a treacle aroma. There is a chocolate and molasses flavor with a slightly bitter chalky finish. Not bad.

Bottle from Trader Joe’s Sacramento. Pours dark brown with a rich tan head and a strong treacle aroma. There is a chocolate and coffee flavor that finishes a bit soapy and bitter. Looks good, smells good, but the flavor leaves a lot to be desired.
