Pours ultra black with an off-white head, looks delicious. Aroma of roasted malt, maybe some chocolate.. smells a bit thin. Tastes strongly of cocoa, maybe some syrup too - fairly sweet. Palate is quite bitter, but smooth just a little thin. Good stout.

22 oz. bottle, given to me by Ian. Pitch black color, with a big, dark brown head. Nose is bitter chocolate, molasses, cinnamon, and some light anise. Sweet and malty, with a reasonable bitterness. Long, bitter aftertaste. Medium to heavy body, very syrupy and sticky. This is a fair stout; lacks some complexity, and is a little too bitter.

Bomber bought as Boatswain Chocolate Stout from Trader Joes. Poured into a pint glass, jet black with a mocha colored head which lasted longer than average with a nice lacing.Taste of chocolate, cocoa, sweet roasted malt, prunes, caramel and vanilla. Medium body and low carbonation, an affordable chocolate stout.

Dark brown body, thin tan head, minimal lacing. Mildly sweet milk chocolate and tootsie roll. Simple. Bland. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, lingering sweetness.

(aka:Boatswain Chocolate Stout from "Trader Joes") Cocoa aroma. Solid black with slim tan head. Mild coffee taste but the cocoa dominates. Smooth dry finish with a touch of sweetness.

Very lean and seems to be a character of this brewery. Good cocoa and some roast in nose. The good side of this brewery not putting much too forward is that the typical harshness associated with this style is not there.

My buddy bought that at the store today. And for a $2 chocolate stout it is good

650ml bottle as Boatswain Chocolate Stout. Pours jet black with sparse beige head, quickly dissipates. Nose of sweet cocoa, a bit of coffee, a bit of vanilla. Roasted malts. Slight hop bitterness, bitter finish. A little too light on the palate; was hoping for something more robust.

Black with lasting light brown head. Quite pleasant roasty. Cocoa. Probably the best of the Rhinelander/Minhas/Botswain beers Ive had, which doesnt say much, but this is pretty decent.

Bottle from trader Joes. Called boatswain. Average flavor and aroma. Bit too chalky. Get what you pay for..
