Deep brown with red backlights...
tall, rough-bubbled , light tan head.
Scent is caramel, malt...woody.
Taste is a creamy, toffee-caramel.....
very smooth, but way too watery.
This one fools you.....looks/smells nice, then let’s you down.
More backbone and this could be a winner.

Bottle and served in standard pint glass: Pours deep cola brown with a fading off-white head and some lace. The aroma has notes of walnut, caramel and bready malts, hint of grassy hops, some corn and veggie esters along with a dash of lacto sourness. The taste starts malty enough but there is also a twang that is not wanted. Nutty and bready with a hint of sugar. The mouth feel is watery as expected. Okay enough and the best of the four I tried but it is hardly even an average brew IMO.

12oz bottle 9/11/09 (RIP Flts 11 & 77)-Pours a dark brown with a small loose tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and caramel. Taste of the same with a bit of vanilla and sugars. This light to medium bodied brew is not bad. Has potential.

12oz bottle. Deep toffee brown, with a decent head. Sweet sugary malt aroma. The taste is reminiscent of a bock, twisted through an adjuncty macro death machine. Tastes quite like a malt syrup mix, no real body but lots of syrupy flavor. Some brown sugar notes, watery sweet finish. Drinkable by third world standards, but still horribly unimpressive.

650ml brown bottle rebadged as Bad Hare Winter Bock. Brown pour, whitish head that flattens quickly, looks clear. Nose has mild chocolate notes, sweet caramel. Taste has faint roasted malt, caramel. Aftertaste has chocolate and cola, trace of bitterness that collapses under the sweetness. Light body, quite carbonated, lots of prickly bubbles. Unimpressive, but I wasn’t expecting much.

Brown pour with a thin bubbly brown head. Aroma is okay, dark fruit, caramel. Body is bit flat and thin, slick. Flavor is sweet caramel, dark fruit. Overall too sweet without much depth.

Received 12-oz bottle from distributors sample pack. Pours a clear dark brown blonde brew with a fast dissolving beige head that dissipates nearly clean. Aroma of caramel malt, some chocolate, flowery hops and some roasted nuts. Taste is light bodied, plenty of carbonation with flavors of light caramel malt, a touch of flowery hops, some chocolate, sage? or was it some dry herb I have to look into. Finish is metallic, gritty, a tad watery with some caramel aftertaste that quickly disappears. I can not remember the last quality craft beer I had from Monroe since Has Kessler was forced out of the old Huber brewery.

After the last few offering from this brewery I can say I am not really looking forward to this even though I do enjoy a good bock. I am mildly titilated by the cap that states bock equals taste. Dark brown color with a diminished head leaving just a thin lid of taupe bubbles. Earthy malt and mild dry cocoa is about all I can inhale. Ok maybe a bit of dirt and hints of roasted nuts as well. This very much reminds me of the bock of my youth when a good share of breweries had a bock out each year and very year the joke would go around that it was time to clean out the vats. Darker grain flavors. A bit husky in the finish and linger. The cap makes sense from a 1980s perspective when light beers ruled and this was then the seasonal dark brew offering. I do not fild great faults in this one except it has not depth. Toss a litttle more dark malt in and call it a bock.

Beer looks like a glass of coke. That was possibly one of the worst descriptions ever. Aroma is almond with some mystery sweet fruit witch I can’t place, so I shall call it dragon fruit for the sake of naming something. Beer feels flat watered down and thin. Almond vanilla possibly toffee can all be tasted in this mostly roasted malt flavored liquid. The sweet taste of this brew lingers a long time. Yet another beer I’ll never want to drink again.
