COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The grand daddy of them all, Imperial Jack - robust, malty and heavily hopped. Who said "jackrabbits" donít bite?.

Hazy orange pour with a thin white head. Aroma is toffee, planty/herbal hops, caramel, metal, odd fruity notes and a little breadiness. Flavor is toast, caramel, toffee and lots of cooked fruits and veggies and booziness, like someone boiled oranges, apples, berries, carrots and squash together in a bunch of malt liquor. Throw in some English yeast fruity esters and you have one weird tasting IIPA. Medium body with a syrupy, oily and boozy slick feel and medium, sharp, soda-like carbonation. This stuff is pretty bad as far as fitting to the style, and has lots of flaws, but I found myself liking it more than I probably should have. Honestly it tastes like a decent Malt Liquor in a 50% mix with a decent Old Ale, itís quite a mess, but it works for me somewhat.

Very herbal tasting. Pours orange with ok head and lacing. Citrusy but doesnt come together well at all. Bitter and sour finish. Bottle for three bucks from trader joes, what can you expect.

Bottle from Trader Joeís labelled as "Boatswain Double IPA." $2.99, thought it was worth a shot, but that turned out to be wrong. A coppery brown, clear with some bubbles. Weird gasoline-like aroma. Medium body. Flavor is malty and a little bitter but not in a good way. Significant alcohol. No discernable hops. Unclear why this is called a double IPA, or any kind of IPA for that matter. Thought about if I would have liked it better if was not expecting IPA flavors, but decided no. In my opinion this sucked.

Pours a hazy gold without much head. Aroma is floral and grassy, not as hoppy so expected. Palate is medium thin. Taste is citrusy and sweet without much hop presence really. 8.5%, Rhinelander Brewing Co.

From a friend: Pours murky brown with an off-white head.Aroma is sugar, nondescript fruit, cough syrup. Taste is sweet. There might be one hop somewhere in this beer. Otherwise, this is exactly what one would expect from Minhas.

Deceiving for a double IPA, where's the hops? More like a strong ale. From the bottle. Pours cloudy orange/amber. Small vanishing head. Smells of malts, caramel and burnt sugar. Taste is malt forward, sweet, caramel. Very little hop character. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Boatswain Double IPA (Twin Screw Steamer) has a thin, cream-colored head, a rather opaque, glowing red-orange, bubbly appearance, some little suspended beige sediment, and no lacing left behind. The aroma is of faint, sweet bread crust, and the flavor is of sweet bread crust, straightforward, but mild hop bitterness, and a touch of light fruit. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Boatswain Double IPA finishes mostly dry, easy drinking, and just the littlest bit alcohilic. Overall, for something touted as bold, this is pretty dull. Nothing bad or foul, though. RJT

This is one of my least favorite IPAs. Actually, it doesnít really come across as an IPA at all. There is no real distinct hop presence. It has a strange metallic, medicinal quality that is hard to tolerate.

Burnt orange color with a small off white head that faded quickly. Aroma is lightly medicinal and syrupy. Flavor is...I donít know...not a double IPA thatís for sure. Itís sweet at first then a weird vegetal bitterness that fades into a kind of sour finish. Medium bodied with a sticky mouthfeel to it. Itís just not good.

Hazy amber/orange color; Medium slightly cream body; Aroma of caramel malt, some floral, & citrus; Flavor of sweet malt, caramel, and citrus; No real bitterness at the finish; Seems thereíre some infected bottles out there - not that terrible but not good either.
