The grand daddy of them all, Imperial Jack - robust, malty and heavily hopped. Who said "jackrabbits" don’t bite?.

Picked up for $2.49 at Trader Joe’s. Mild malty aroma without any obvious hopping. Head is thick and the body is rather soapy and reminds me of wet bread. The mild artficial-tasting bitterness is unpleasant and nothing about the beer speaks "Double IPA," as it was billed. Only positive is that it contains alcohol.

Muddy amber. Ok head. Earth. Vague indistinguishable malt and hop. Vegetable. Sorry but this is a very poorly made beer. Avoid

I had this from Trader Joe’s, bottled as Boatswain Twin Screw Steamer, billed as a Double IPA. It’s incredibly mild for something billed as a double, but I don’t think it’s bad. It pours hazy orange, average head and lace. The aroma isn’t that inviting, it reminds me of boiled cabbage. I do like boiled cabbage, but not in my beer. The flavor is better than the aroma. Tangerine, buttery cereal malt, and a mild hop finish. Thin finish, watery mouthfeel. Not amazing, but not bad.

Pours burnt orange with a thin, short lived white head. Hop, floral and oxidation aroma. Hop, floral, citrus, diacetyl,, sugar and caramel flavors. No bite or bitterness and not very hoppy especially for a dipa. Smooth but boring.

Orange in color sweet and sugar booze in the aroma and taste. Not particularly bitter or hoppy. Smooth finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Flaske: Forfærdelig metallisk duft. Absolut udrikkeligog virkelig irriterende at finde udaf at det i virkeligheden er en Minhas når jeg troede jeg havde købt en Boatswain. Ad og drain pour.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a tulip and a snifter. The appearance was a decent looking hazy orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about less than a minute leaving some light lacing. The smell had some booze over top of some sugar coated grapefruit, light mango. The taste was mainly the same as it was very sweet. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a somewhat sessionable aspect about it. The carbonation didn’t seem as sharp as one might hope for in a DIPA as it came across pretty smooth. Overall, uh...weird DIPA as it came across pretty unbalanced being that it was extremely sweet and not enough bitter. I probably wouldn’t have this again.

This is a bad representation of the IPA style. Malts are muddled, hops a bitter only, not a trace of the hoppy aroma you crave from an IPA. Boozy.

This beer has a golden color. It has a sweet aroma of toffee. It has a strong bitter bite but midway has some sweetness and finishes with a strong aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy orange pour with a thin white head. Aroma is toffee, planty/herbal hops, caramel, metal, odd fruity notes and a little breadiness. Flavor is toast, caramel, toffee and lots of cooked fruits and veggies and booziness, like someone boiled oranges, apples, berries, carrots and squash together in a bunch of malt liquor. Throw in some English yeast fruity esters and you have one weird tasting IIPA. Medium body with a syrupy, oily and boozy slick feel and medium, sharp, soda-like carbonation. This stuff is pretty bad as far as fitting to the style, and has lots of flaws, but I found myself liking it more than I probably should have. Honestly it tastes like a decent Malt Liquor in a 50% mix with a decent Old Ale, it’s quite a mess, but it works for me somewhat.
