The grand daddy of them all, Imperial Jack - robust, malty and heavily hopped. Who said "jackrabbits" don’t bite?.

I’m surprised by average to lower ratings of this beer as I truly am enjoying it as I type. Poured into a pint glass, at $1.99 for 650ML of Trader Joe’s 8.4ABV; Boatswain Double IPA it does not initially taste to me like a very hoppy IPA but is very enjoyable. It was the last bottle and I’m glad I grabbed it up along with the other Boatswain beers I haven’t tried yet. Almost like a smooooooth barley wine in taste with hints of apple. Amazing!

This sparked my attention. On sale @ TraderJoes and under the boatswain double alias. Nose: next to nothing- very mellow light citrus and vanilla nilla cookies. Taste: very well balanced IPA - not overly hoppy. Caramel, vanilla pudding, graham cracker crust, lemon, honey with a hint of bubblegum. A solid brew.... not to be missed. Wisconsin hits a homerun here!

This is Boatswain Double IPA from Trader Joes (22oz). The aroma is a little malty, some hoppiness (resin) and a hint of Belgium yeast. Pours an off white head, mostly diminishing, cloudy golden brown color. The taste is a bitter and sweet, slight saltiness. The body is light to medium, creamy texture, average to lively carbonation, the finish bitter. Overall the creaminess makes it easy to drink, not very hoppy, not a great double IPA but a whole lot better than the 15 it is rated. I would drink again, it was only $2.99 I believe. A good deal.

Bottle from Trader Joe’s. Weird but not bad. Aromas of cereal, caramel, and some liquorice. Malty, with bitter notes. Not a typical DIPA.

Doftar Pilsner toner åh metall syrlig. Smakar likt doften plus lite trä. Ja enkel medelfyllig lättdrucken Dipa med på tok för mycket pilsner inslag å ingen fruktighet..

Bottle shared with northropfrye. Smells and tastes of molasses. A little bit bitter but balanced with sweet. It’s a little overpowering altogether. Foamy head and tangerine colour.

Flaska. Doft av svagdricka o karamell. Smaken är något vinig där finns en svag sötma o sedan kommer en dammig något vass beska. Lagerölkänsla. Lättdrucken!!

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2012 Bomber from Fresh & Easy in Vacaville, CA. Pours golden amber with a slight white head. Mild fruity hop aroma. Med + body. Flavor is fruity and floral over a slightly harsh malt backing. A bit gummy. Better than many non-impy IPAs. Ethanol covers many wounds. It’s in the bottom rung of impy IPAs, but even that is a pretty tasty level for ale. I cannot figure out the hop mix here, but it is a decent drink. [rerated cause I forgot the numbers]

Bomber as Boatswain Double IPA from Trader Joe’s in Davis, CA. Pours golden amber with a slight white head. Mild fruity hop aroma. Med + body. Flavor is fruity and floral over a slightly harsh malt backing. A bit gummy. It’s ok. Better than many non-impy IPAs. Ethanol covers many wounds. It’s in the bottom rung of impy IPAs, but even that is a pretty tasty level for ale. I cannot figure out the hop mix here, cause I just don’t get pine and citrus - unless I talk to myself quite sternly. But it is a righteous drink.

I found this in a big bottle at TJs. Not a bad beer for $2. Good aftertaste, not overpowering like many IPAs. No head but nice color. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aromas of yeast, bread and earthy hops. Copper in color with a medium sized foam. Flavor is subtle nutty, caramel malts with some hop presence in the finish. Light carbonation with a medium body. Overall, this is a pretty decent beer with mostly malty flavoring topped off with light hops. I’d give this a C rating.
