2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
By now we know: it’s a $2 special at Trader Joe’s. The other "Boatswain" beers have turned out pretty good, so what does this one have? A clean copper pour under a big foamy IPA head. Smell has a slight trace of soap, otherwise, a decent malt nose, but not much in the way of hops. Taste has an initial note of hard candy, which is hard to shake after the first few sips. Some resiny hop notes, but they are kind of buried. At least there is a big malty taste, with a play of alcohol. As a $2 beer, it’s okay. As an Imperial IPA, I wouldn’t recommended it.

Smell is great. The like a strong bock with a very bitter finish. Just a little too strong for me.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
From the 650 ml. bottle "Trader Joe’s" batch. Orange amber pour with a quick lasting white head. The aroma brings out a musty cellar and perfume character at first with a kind of floral and burnt character. Medium body. The taste seems to have a metallic and odd malt character with little in the way of hops. It was just boring to me.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Purchased a bottle under the Boatswain label, and poured into a pint glass to drink. The beer had a cloudy, sediment deep amber-copper color with a good-sized foamy/creamy off-white head with average retention, cling, and lacing. Its aroma featured grainy and pine hops notes along with some barley and spice. The taste was mostly a bitter and sour grainy blend with some bread and earthy tones, and a sour alcohol finish. The body was mostly wet and full, with average carbonation and thickness, and a strong alcohol presence.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
A disgusting IPA, with almost no hops to it. Good high alcohol content though.
