Bottled, labeled as Boatswain H.L.V. Heavy Lift Vessel. Dark orangey amber with a medium sized, large bubbled off-white head. Bready aroma with some sweet caramel, toffee and sourdough yeast. Tangy, straw and hay flavor with stone slightly toasty wheat. A muddled, doughy mess.

You get want you pay for. Not all breweries know what there doing This is not a good beer. Pours dark brown this is the only thing nice about this beer. It has a wierd metalic flavor, and thats the ony taste I can get from this beer. Don’t waste your money on this one. Very dissapointing.

Save your time and money. The beer is horrible. It’s cheap for a reason. No quality. ALL THE BEER is watery dish-water. Sure, one can buy this from Trader Joe’s for a low price, but really, what you get is nothing on par to quality. I’d rather put the extra money towards a pint or six pack of something more proven and worthwhile. This beer is made cheap for a reason and its to sell out. The owners, both non brew-masters by the way, just some trust fund rich kids, are slinging this dishwater to steal your money. I mean go on the website, it shows the guy walking out of his Escalade SUV and the interviews with him and the sister "co-owner" show the trust fund babies they are...both siblings are narcissistic and ridiculous. I would give this a zero rating if I could. I mean this is just poser beer. its horrible, sucks, skunk, bad, cheap, watery, smelly, no taste, crap.

"bottled as Boatswain HLV (Heavy Lift Vessel). Don’t know why. Kind of a non-descript strong brown ale. Decent malt/hop balance, and if it stopped right there, it would be ok, but there is a pronounced offness to the aroma and flavor, slightly sour and vegetal, that just doesn’t let it all come together."

Dark brown body with a tan head.aroma of roared malt and dark chocolate. Taste matches aroma with a bitterness from the dark chocolate.

650 ml bottle from Trader Joe's, from Rhinelander brewery in Monroe WI. Boatswain beer made from small batches. Aromas and flavors of sweet roasted malts balanced with moderate bitterness coming from a high level of hops.

Bomber. Clear deep dark brown copper, firm lasting tan foam, Rich sweet caramel malt smell. Taste is sweet caramel malt, Nestle Quik powder, some spice, earth, treacle and dark fruitiness. Softer carbonation, medium bodied, moderately hopped. Gets vinous as it warms, syrupy finish. S’okay. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

I had this bottled as Boatswain HLV from Trader Joe’s. It pours dark brown with an average head and lace, and the aroma is spicy malt, applebutter, allspice. The flavor is decent. Not great, but decent. It’s slightly boozy like an American strong ale, with a strong, oaky finish. The beers at Trader Joe’s are typically the best in their price range. This is as good as any twenty-two ounce beer you’ll find anywhere for less than $3.
