2.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 JFParnell (6) - Washington, USA - AUG 3, 2012UPDATED: SEP 3, 2012 Bought as Boatswain’s Heavy Lift Vessel. Not a bad beer, but definitely not great either. For $2 a bomber, it is well worth the price. Just don’t buy the Boatswain’s Double IPA, it tastes like ass.

One time der friend and netcafe owner, Ali brew a spl batch of beer from much grain and hop he have in secret garden area. He spend much time and effort in making this gr8 beer. This remind me of that. Sweet flavours and slight bitter at finish.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 jgb9348 (3966) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - MAY 12, 2013
Deep dark brown coloured body with a thick, three centimetre tall tan head and tints of ruby. Aroma of nuts, sweet raisins, plums and figs, some malt and a bit of nice earthy hops. Medium-bodied; Assertive nutty and malty flavour with a lot of sweetness from caramel, caster sugar and some lighter fruits, all with a good earthy finish. Aftertaste is quite complex with good sugars and maltiness and a surprising tart quality and a bit of a rustic floral flavour too. Overall, a surprisingly good and complex beer for cheap at Trader Joe’s and one definitely worth trying for the price and variance. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Trader Joe’s in Alexandria (Old Town), Virginia on 05-October-2012 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 16-November-2012.

Okay at first but soon becomes way too sour. I tried valiantly but ended up pouring out a little less than half of the bomber. Odd; the first time I had this was at a tasting and it was my favorite of dozens.

Bottle Ron shared. Pretty decent but nothing I remember much about. Body and depth were there.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ron (1988) - Rochester, New York, USA - APR 15, 2013
Bomber from Trader Joe’s Rochester. Pours a clear dark mahogany color with a large foamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of caramel malts, faint nuts, some mild herbal hops. The taste is caramel malts and a nutty finish. Medium bodied. Better than that Scotch ale I just had.

I’m surprised that this beer has such a low overall rating. I’m enjoying it, and it was $2.29 at Trader Joe’s (Sold as Boatswain H.L.V.) on Broadway at 72nd St.
I taste butter. Do you?

Aroma of carbonated vanilla bean. Blackish brown with a thin foam. Flavors of strongly sweet vanilla, candied caramel, strong sugar and biscuit. Overall, slightly messy flavor and way too sweet, It almost tastes like liquid sugar/cotton candy. Very unbalanced.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Caytinator (577) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - APR 8, 2013
22oz bomber bought under the name "Boatswain Heavy Lift Vessel Ale" from Trader Joe’s. Translucent, mahogany-brown color. Laces well, small head. Pleasant aroma, medium-light, malty, dark fruits. "Brown" taste, hoppy, strong, and alcoholic. Reminds me of belgian strong ale, with a hoppy kick. I’d definitely buy it again.

purchased under the moniker Boatswain Heavy Lift Vessel Ale, from Trader Joe’s, i think. pours dark ruby brown with a thin sticky head. aroma is nutty with a faint whisky leather scent. flavor is roasted nuts, a bit of butterscotch, brown sugar, reminds a bit of a dark belgian actually. finish is somewhat oily. pretty good honestly.
