3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Champanes,
this ale had a brown pour with a trace of haze into the glass, the pour made a one to two finger faint off-white / light tan head that receded to an island of a cover and ring, it left spots and large fingers of lacing on the glass, the bottle had a thin ring of sediment on the bottom of the bottle,
this brown ale had aromas of toasted malt, nut, chocolate, faint caramel, malt and brown sugar sweetness, the aromas were not that big on the nose,
it had flavors of toasted malt, caramel, chocolate, a brown sugar like sweetness, some prune like dark fruit, a little mint from the hops(?),
the finish had toasted malt, sweetness and some hop bitterness, the sweetness was pretty strong,
the mouth feel was medium maybe a touch more, it was a little sticky on the lips and there was soft to average carbonation,
the nose on this beer was not that big, the flavor was bigger, the sweetness was pretty prominent and kept this beer from getting a better rating, a bigger nose and less sweetness would help this drink.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured a dark deep red with a moderate head and lacing. Aroma was of sweet malts with a slight fruitiness. Taste was primarily of sweet malts - caramel, bread, with a light hop finish. Palate was good. Overall, this was pleasant surprise. Very rich and drinkable.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bomber: labelled as ’Boatswain H.L.V. Ale. Opened on 28th May 2015, my fourth beer of a mini tasting session I am having with myself while here in Southern California. Only bought the beer because I thought it was a new brewery to me: turns out it is not a new brewery, just a ’Trader Joe’ make believe name. Anyway this live rate is about to start: beer poured into a La Chouffe badged stemmed tulip (twice). Nice looking beer, clean and clear body: chestnut red, with a full and lasting off-white crown. Malty and woody nose, sweet malty taste, raisins and a spoon full of sugar per sip . A little too sweet, even for my sweet tooth: needs to calm down and have some hop influence somewhere. Bordering on sickly. Struggled to finish the whole bottle: hand full of M&M’s helped.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bomber from Trader Joe’s - pretty lame-ass strong brown, a little like an English strong - strong caramelized maltiness, more like charred/burnt - leafy bitterness, syrupy sweetness - some dark bread and dried fruit - a bit of a medicinal finish - pretty lame.
