2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Yeah, this isn’t really a pilsner. This is just another cheap grainy lager, although for 4 bucks a sixer, it’s good for making brats.

2.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
12oz can. Not really a traditional pilsener, almost doesn’t deserve the moniker. Pours clear, dull yellow, good lacing and a nice full head. Poor aroma, scary. Grainy and korny. The taste is ok, nothing remarkable for a pale lager...a little bitter, not fresh. A bit better than macros but not much.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Simpler Times Pilsner has a thick, somewhat off-white head, a clear, golden appearance, with lots of bubbles and tiny white specs floating throughout, and heavy lacing left behind. The aroma is of dank, sickly-sweet grain husk and dirty barley, and the flavor is of those elements, with a cheap, store-brand bread flavor and an unpleasant hop bite at the end. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Simpler Times Pilsner finishes wet, dirty, and marginally drinkable. Overall, the only thing going for this beer is that it has such unusual characteristics, that it’s worth a try, just for the novelty of it. Price is not an advantage, because one can buy much better-tasting Miller or Anheuser-Busch beers for a lower price. Also, Simpler Times Pilsner should be consumed at the lowest possible temperature above freezing. I recommend it, and that’s for the weirdness of it, not the overall quality. I will not ever have it again, for sure. RJT

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a nice straw with about 1" of head. Smells like cornflakes and honey. Palate is very light. Effervescent carbonation. Taste is corn, light floral hop, pale malt, hay, fairly sweet. Not much of a pilsener, more of a premium lager. Not unspeakably awful, and probably the best beer you can get for $3.50 a sixer. Compares favorably to Schlitz, though its quite a bit sweeter.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours from the can with a golden straw yellow color and a dense pillow of off-white head. The aroma is dull and uninviting, though, with a musty, grassy character contrasted by some white bread. The flavor is even more disappointing, with my first taste being most comparable to dirt, and further tastes revealing a little lemon, but mostly a dry, stale cornbread character. The medium-light body and a light carbonation play off of the light, dry flavor nicely, but the texture is not enough to save this unsatisfyingly dull and earthy beer.

0.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
This beer is shit. If the rating minimum wasn't 1, I'd give it a zero. Also, all you idiots that rate beer color using more than one word (ie yellow, brown, black, red) need to turn in your testicles.

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Grainy aroma of raw sugar and blow dryer hair. Foggy yellow with one finger head that lasts for a time. Hyper sweet taste, like hair soaking in a nutrisweet solution. Prickly body that is filling in an insubstantial way. Like an ice lager on steroids.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Type: 12-oz. can
Glass: Pilsner glass
From: Trader Joe’s in La Mesa (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $3.49 for a 6-pack
Purchased: April 4, 2013
Consumed: April 5, 2013
Misc.: Meant to get the lager
Poured a golden hazy color with about two fingers of frothy white head. Initially looked like it was going to be pretty bubbly, but that calmed down quickly. Average wet, foggy lacing on the sides of the glass all the way down. Pretty good retention for a pilsner.
Smelled cereal, wheat bread, lemon grass, honey, bread, tropical fruit, sour fruits and faint caramel.
Tasted like a watered-down version of the smell. Even a bit like a hefeweizen. Got water, cereal, grass and corn. Also faint banana and/or sour fruit. Not as good as the smell (which wasn’t that good).
Light body. Thin texture. Average- carbonation. Abrupt, but clean, crisp, refreshing and watery finish.
Nothing too special about this pilsner, besides the price ($3.49 for a 6-pack). I can see this beer being consumed in about any whore movie.
