This is the beer of Eisenhower’s America -- a beer of obligation. It is not a beer to be consumed for enjoyment, but for utility. As such, it should be consumed directly from the can (incidentally, I cannot comment on the beer’s appearance). Simpler TImes pilsner is the cervisial equivalent of working at a steel mill; the hours are long, the work is hard, but ultimately it pays the bills. For $3 a six pack, this beer is surprisingly inoffensive.

1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Can from Trader Joe’s. Clear light gold pour with a white head. Sweet and grassy nose. Lighter palate. Taste is wheat/grain, with a sweet element, and a metallic element. Not very good.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
This may be the best 60 cents per can beer I’ve had. That said, it’s seriously lacking in aroma. It has a nice pale golden color with a thin head. The taste is fine with some malty sweetness but it could use a bit more hop flavor to offset that. I’d consider buying this again simply because of the price.

1.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
Six-pack of cans from Trader Joe’s. I poured one into a nucleated pint glass, but don’t bother. It’s an adjunct lager, you know what they look/smell/taste like. Hardly a true pilsener, but I suppose it has a tiny bit more body, aroma hops, and alochol than the Simpler Times Lager. But the main reason to buy this is because it comes in cheap cans and the campsite prohibits glass.

Can from trader Joe’s pours light gold with a thin white head. Thin skunk and grainy aroma. Flavor is thin and grassy with a little sour skunkiness.

can... clear dark straw, bright white head with about a finger of head... really dead nose with a bit of sweet sugar, boring... sweet bomb, might as well be drinking water, not gross but not worth my time

Can. A crisp clean pour with a fluffy white head. Nose is light yeast and dough with some corn flakes. Palate is clean, smooth, refereshing. Flavors of corn flakes, like dry grass notes. Overall a rather pleasant experience for 3.99/6 pack

2.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Simpler Times is one of those beers you’d like to take on a fishing trip. It’s a Pilsner so it’s fairly easy to drink. It’s not worth it to pour into a glass so you might as well drink it out of the can. For $2.99, you can’t go wrong.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tried this one out at a get-together a couple years back. There was certainly plenty of joking about yearning for "simpler times." In all seriousness, this wasn’t half-bad for a straight-from-the-can thirst-quencher. It had a nice crispness going on. Seems like the real allure here is the price-point, and really you can’t go wrong. Good alternative to similar macro offerings.
