Where and how: b. 650 ml
Aroma medium strong, mildly pungent with feel of caramel sugars, touch of citrus.
Top: small, off-white with rings on glass.
Base: hazy, amber
Palate : medium bodied, drinkable. Average, maybe tad lighter than most carbonation. Average finish.
Taste: interesting blend, chose of hops and malts. It created notes of black tea, tad leafy greens with raw end.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Clean pour with a thinner head. Aroma doesn’t actually smell like hops. Flavor is of stale hop, grass, metallic, farm, and malt. Leaves a stale and unpleasant hop finish. A first and last.

Not bad. Poured from a bottle. No head but okay lacing, clear and off-yellow. A bit skunky on the nose but not the taste.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
A funky aroma of malt and skunked beer, pours a clear caramel color. Taste better than it smells, caramel, and malt with a hint of hops. Medium body with a bitter finish.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled as Boatswain American IPA. Poured into nonic pint. Hazy amber with nice shaving cream head. Aroma of caramel, nutshells, cedar wood and apple. Taste is malty sweet, caramel cherry and no bitter to be found. Probably should be labeled an American Brown Ale. NOT AN IPA. However, it is light, malty and delicious. Watery mouthfeel.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bomber as "Boatswain" from Trader Joe’s - I bought this because it was cheap and I sometimes have luck with these Trader Joe’s beers - hard to know how to rate this, as it’s not really an IPA - it tastes more like a watered-down, mediocre American Barleywine - clear light amber - pretty much no head - nose of toffee, fruit cocktail, treacle, brown sugar - if I came to it blind without knowing the style, I might actually find it pleasant, albeit a bit sweet - kind of watery and thin in the mouth - caramelized sugars, moderate bitterness, some oxidized kind of sherry-like notes, cherry - finish is really husky - weird beer, but not entirely without enjoyable parts.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This was called Boatswain American IPA. Creamy little head on an amber pour. The label looks like an old newspaper. The aroma is hoppy, with a little vinegar and citrus. It didn’t seem that fresh, and there are no dates on the bottle. The taste is pretty dry, with grapefruit, and a little fig and coconut. It goes down easy enough, but is not a superior IPA. It was worth the bargain price ($2.50 for a bomber).
