3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber, labeled as Boatswain American IPA at Trader Joeís.
This really isnít an American IPA. More like an Imperial Red. They have the bitterness right for an IPA, but not much else. Not a bad beer, just not an IPA of any sort. Deep reddish color, Lots of caramel malt in the taste. It might want to become Arrogant Bastard when it grows up, but for two bucks a toss, this ainít bad.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours a nice orange amber. Medium creamy white head. Aroma is dry, light sweet, kinda pale malty, earthy hop, sorts of lager-like. Lighter medium body. Sugar sweet. Some overripe fruit. Moderate dryness. Minimal bitterness. Not really bad but not good.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Aroma is sweet, dry, malty, earthy hops. Tastes very sweet, almost like candy. Fruity, lightly dry finish.
Very sweet, not much like an IPA, but drinkable.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bomber for $1.99 from Trader Joeís. $2 per rating for 4 new ratings? Iím in. Pours a full copper with minimal foam and some decent effervescence running up the sides of the glass. Aroma is slightly sweet of pale malts, but has just enough crystal or cara malts in there to give it proper color and something like balance in the nose. Hopped and hopped again? Not to my nose. Bittering hops are evident in the first taste, but thatís it. Then the sweet maltiness takes over again. It is slightly medicinal, as one other rater noted, but I think thatís an effect of imbalance between base malt and crystal/cara malts. The hops were clearly not done correctly either. Ah well, for $1.99, Iíve had worse. And, actually, on the 3rd taste, Iím finding it not bad at all. I can live with this... I think...

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This beer has some decent qualities, but is pretty mild for a traditional IPA. It is worth the $2.49 I spent for it, but not if you want a hard hitting beer. The ABV is up around 7.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Drank in Weston Wisconsin. Dark amber on color with heavy off white head. Tastes like a double IPA, not my favorite.

1.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
I was expecting another lame beer from Minhas and they havenít let me down. Although I will say that their butterscotch beers of the past now are in only the past. Bravo! Slow learning curve tho. This IPA may at one time have been in the vicinity of some flavor/aroma hops, but it doesnít show. Plenty of malt. But also has a foul medicinal quality that has a lingering bitterness thatís a real grind. Nose is like flavor. Thereís also some decent malt flavor mixed in with the other off qualities. Body could be good but the weird stuff dominates. Finish is like flavor. Appearance is about the best thing- clear brown amber with some bubble trails. I donít have any more chilled brew, but I think I might have to pitch this.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tallahassee, Fl - Trader Joeís - 22 oz bomber - labeled as Boatswain American IPA. Murky, dark orange pour, sticky off-white head - nice lacing. Aroma has a touch of booziness, a brief hint of spruce. Very malt-oriented IPA - flavor has some malty sweet biscuit-like accents, a touch of light citrus bitterness, some white grapes in the back end. Mouthfeel has a nice thickness to it. Pretty solid for a $3 bomber!
