Bottle from Trader Joe’s, Belingham, WA; 6.7% ABV

Hazy amber color with creamy head. The aroma is fruity but also a bit old. Mild caramel flavor, with a feeling of old; semi-sweet, with some caramel flavor, sweet and fruity hopping.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, 22oz. As Boatswain American IPA. It pours a clear, pale amber body with a dense, two-finger off-white head. The aroma is sweetish and caramel-ish, with some flowers, grass and perfume. Rather sweet on the palate, some caramel flavor, as well as grass and some faint orange notes. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Lasting sweet finish. Not very bad this one, but as an IPA it fails. At least in my book. Too sweet and not enough on the hoppy side. 130810

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
22oz bottle, Boatswain American IPA, thanks Peregrinari. Crystal clear copper body with medium beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, strawberry, some caramel, light vegetal. Taste is moderately sweet, strawberry, caramel, some orange, resin. Medium body, low carbonation. Not great, but not terrible. Still, hardly seems like an IPA.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber from Fresh & Easy in Vacaville, CA. Pours clear copper with a creamy off-white head. Decent citrus/floral aroma over some caramel. Med body. Flavor is instantly malty with bitter. It relaxes to a hint of treacle with bitter. I’m gonna stick with citrus/floral for hop. It finishes bitter, but there is still something that makes me think of treacle.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle under the name of Boatswain American IPA. Poured clear light copper color with an average frothy white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate grass and citrus aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate complex bittersweet flavor with a moderate bittersweet finish of medium duration. This beer met my expectations at a fair price.
