3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This beer has some decent qualities, but is pretty mild for a traditional IPA. It is worth the $2.49 I spent for it, but not if you want a hard hitting beer. The ABV is up around 7.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Golden, hazy, average and mostly diminishing head. Moderate to full, malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel and bread with light fruitiness, some vegetable/herbal hoppyness. Body is medium to full, malty and sweetish flavor, some caramel and bread, light fruitiness, light - some herbal hoppyness, faint alcohol. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, light caramel - some bread with light fruitiness, some herbal hoppyness, light alcohol. Bready "IPA". Could be dried with less caramel.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled as Boatswain American IPA. Poured into nonic pint. Hazy amber with nice shaving cream head. Aroma of caramel, nutshells, cedar wood and apple. Taste is malty sweet, caramel cherry and no bitter to be found. Probably should be labeled an American Brown Ale. NOT AN IPA. However, it is light, malty and delicious. Watery mouthfeel.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bomber as "Boatswain" from Trader Joe’s - I bought this because it was cheap and I sometimes have luck with these Trader Joe’s beers - hard to know how to rate this, as it’s not really an IPA - it tastes more like a watered-down, mediocre American Barleywine - clear light amber - pretty much no head - nose of toffee, fruit cocktail, treacle, brown sugar - if I came to it blind without knowing the style, I might actually find it pleasant, albeit a bit sweet - kind of watery and thin in the mouth - caramelized sugars, moderate bitterness, some oxidized kind of sherry-like notes, cherry - finish is really husky - weird beer, but not entirely without enjoyable parts.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This was called Boatswain American IPA. Creamy little head on an amber pour. The label looks like an old newspaper. The aroma is hoppy, with a little vinegar and citrus. It didn’t seem that fresh, and there are no dates on the bottle. The taste is pretty dry, with grapefruit, and a little fig and coconut. It goes down easy enough, but is not a superior IPA. It was worth the bargain price ($2.50 for a bomber).

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
650ml bottle; $2.66 after tax. Bought as Boatswain American IPA. Pours clear copper with a large off-white head with some staying power. Aroma is a little funky, yeast/chemical. No hops. Taste is almost cloyingly sweet, yeasty, and just off. Almost a fleeting shadow if hops, but it’s gone in a flash. Agreed with the rest of the reviews--this is not bad at all for its price, but whoever called this an IPA has never had an IPA before. The most amazing thing is that the bottle states this beer was brewed to 79 IBUs, and yet is not even remotely bitter.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
22 ounce bottle labeled as boatswain American IPA. I guess it's an alias for another brewery. Pours a cloudy rose color. A bit of a sour aroma nothing hops noted. High-level carbonation medium bodied. A bit of a bland bitter taste not much up flavoring at all. A substandard IPA.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
[Bottle (650ml). As ’Rhinelander Boatswain American IPA’] Pours a hazy dark orange-amber with an average size semi-lasting frothy off-white head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is fruity first, not very hoppy at all, along with caramel malt, sugar and notes of cardboard and bread -- we aren’t off to a good start. Sweet caramel malt flavour along with fruit, alcohol and a hint of hops. Light to average bitter finish. Average bodied. Really big disappointment (I’m not familiar with the brewery at all so I had no idea what to expect). Addendum: I want to add that I read that someone said it tastes like Malt Liquor and I can totally see that.

Not a huge IPA fan because they use too much Cascade. Even though they claim lots of hops, I don't see it being too hoppy. Very balanced flavor, low hop aroma. Very different flavor. Can't determine the hops they use.

1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottle. Deep Amber with a small head. Nose is very strongly malty. Loads of caramel. Toffee apple. Taste is pretty astringent. Harsh bitterness. More caramel. Weird. Full body, active carbonation. Terrible
