I have been very impressed with the Mission Street beers from Trader Joe’s, so maybe we should talk about those instead.

Pours clear deep golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, biscuit, floral and grassy hops. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter with a sweet caramel and floral finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Drank in Weston Wisconsin. Dark amber on color with heavy off white head. Tastes like a double IPA, not my favorite.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottled as Boatswain IPA from trader joes. Pours deep copper, quick off white head. Toasted malt nose. Taste is generally sweet, toasted malt, pears, slight bitterness on finish. Medium body. Ultimately not a horrid beer, just a horrid IPA. Score reflected as such.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
3oz tasting @ Medicine Hat Beer Fest 2001. Medium golden. Aroma is mostly caramel with underlying grassy notes. Grainy caramel is the dominant flavour here, with the hops adding an astringent pithy bitterness at the end. Missing any pleasant aromatics. Bitter and dry. Empty of character.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pours a pale amber colore with a medium tan head. Aroma is malty...light roast and caramel...with mild floral citrus...orange blossom and pineapple. Flavor is super sweet and caramely...light metallic note...some grapefruity notes...boozy. Mouthfeel is light and silky with a malty, slightly citrusy finish. Not very good...

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Boatswain American IPA. It poured a clear copper color with a white head. The aroma was a little grassy and citrusy. The taste was not what I expected as an IPA. More of a non-IPA. Purchased at Trader Joe’s, will pass on it next time around.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle purchased at Trader Joe’s as ’Boatswain American I.P.A. Beer is a dark golden/amber color with a fine head of light tan bubbles. nose is very faintly hoppy reminsicent of what IPA should be but very very faint. A bit of bitters on the front, but really thin and virtually disappearing by swallow. Not a bad IPA for the cost, but certainly not a great beer by any stretch of the imagination.
