3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at SPSBF. Pours a clear golden orange with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of grassy hops with a bit of citrus and an earthy bread backing. Flavor is a bit thin with some light grassy hops with a light grain backing.

3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of finely sized tan colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a very softly carbonated transparent copper brown colored body and a spiderweb lacing. The mild aroma was mild malt and mild hop. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The strong flavor contained notes of strong delicious caramel hops and malt. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Copper color with creamy lasting lacy head. Citrus & floral aromas. Medium hoppiness with definite malt in the background. Very smooth on the tongue with a crisp clean finish. Very refreshing IPA.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
22-oz bottle at Trader Joes. Pours a dense dark amber with lingering white head and lace. Mild hop aromas. Medium body with pronounced maltiness and subdued hop bitterness and flavor. Not really IPA like.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Purchased at Trader Joe’s as Boatswain American IPA. Pours copper with a white head. Aromas of toffee and yeast. Almost sort of a Belgian yeasty thing going on in the flavor, with grain sweetness and a hint of burnt sugar. Very lightly bitter finish. If I didn’t know this was supposed to be an IPA, I would have no idea. Too sweet and very little hop character. Not a horrible beer, but pretty underwhelming.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottled as "Boatswain American IPA". Picked up at Trader Joe’s, Charlottesville. Pours amber with a 2" beige head. Smells of generic hops and grapefruit. Tastes of bubblegum, malt, and pine. Ehh.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This is presumabally the same beer as the Trader Joe’s bottling called Boatswain American IPA.
The beer pours a reddish orange color with a medium sized white head that leaves a little lacing on the glass.
The aroma is very faint, it’s got some wood, a little citrus fruit, some toasty malt, but generally all those aromas are pretty muted and it doesn’t smell like much.
The flavor is mostly dominated by floral bitterness and toasty malt. The beer is moderatley bitter, clean, and not very sweet.
This is boring, but that is indeed it’s worst offense, this is not bad beer, just not great either.

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Purchased a bomber at Trader Joe’s, labeled Boatswain American IPA. Pours amber with a fluffy, long lasting, white head and a lot of lacing. Nose is very strange: fading hops, seaweed and hints of citrus. Body is medium and too smooth for IPA. A lot of grapefruity hops balanced on the palate by caramel and biscuit malt, ripe fruit and drying alcohol. Finish is long and dry. At the end it was not a bad brew.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Boatswain IPA from Trader Joes. Copper with decent head. Minimal leafy pine hop aroma. Toasty caramel biscuit minimal fruit and dry mild finish. Medium light body. Very fresh. Nothing particularly wrong with it. Very basic. Would have been a decent IPA 20 years ago.
