Poured from a large bottle into a narrow pint glass to drink. The beer had a slightly cloudy amber-orange color with some sediment and an average-sized foamy white head with some retention and decent cling and lacing. Its aroma featured a malty-sour caramel and earthy-citrus hops with a slight bit of grain. The taste was fairly sour and grainy with a slight citrus bitterness and a light bit of caramel and mash. The beer had a medium density body with low carbonation and a slight creamy body.

Pours a clear gold. Has a malty and grainy aroma. Taste is a mix of malts and light citrus hops. A light bitter aftertaste.

Hazy copper pour with a 1 finger, creamy beige head. Aroma is floral, citrus and fruity hops, lemon, light berry notes and caramel syrup. Flavor is sweet malt, planty hops, some citrus, corn silage, sweet caramel, sorghum and some weird planty, fruity and higher alcohol notes that I can’t really describe. Light to medium body with a medium, sharp carbonation and off dry, syrupy feel. Really weird and not very good. Probably not worth the $3/bomber price.

Cheers!

Boatswain American IPA has a rather thin, off-white head, a mostly clear, orange appearance, some bubbles, and not much lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of mild citrus (think about orange peel), and white bread crust, with possibly a caramelized sugar note. Taste is of all that, with a bitterness that comes across as nowhere near a 79 IBU, but it’s there to at least balance the beer. Mouthfeel is on the light side, and Boatswain American IPA finishes dry, refreshing, and highly drinkable. For a store-brand India Pale Ale, this is a pleasant surprise. RJT

Bottle from Trader Joe’s. Pours almost clear bright copper with a bubbly, frothy off white head. Tastes like hops, sweet orange, caramel, light nuttyness. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like hips, light booze, and orange citrus.

Tastes nothing like an IPA. Dark ale flavor. So bad. Lots of malt flavor and regrets here.

Rated on 6-21-2012. This beer’s appearance is a medium sized fizzy off-white head with a long retention, hazy orange body with a golden tint, fast rising, fizzy carbonation observed, and a fair amount of lacing adorns my glass. The aroma is citrus hops and light caramel malt. The flavor is moderately bitter, citrus hops and caramel malt. The mouthfeel is smooth and thin. This beer is light-medium bodied. This beer is not very hoppy tasting for the style. It is a lackluster IPA.

Bottle from some guy at btr. Sweet, way you too sweet for IPA for me. Interesting, but my IPA friends would hate it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Truly a putrid mess. Thumper IPA keeps going and going, destroying any sense of good taste and craftsmanship in its wake. A sweet, trashy mix of garbage. Pours brown, finishes like a cheap rum candy. Bottle for two bucks at Trader Joes.

Came in a 4-pack of samplers, all with rabbit-themed names. Expected an IPA, got something that was thick, sweet, and had zero hop flavour/armoa to speak of. Split the bomber with a friend, and barely finished my half. Awful.
