3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Q Brick in Osaka via hand pump. Super creamy and consequently no fizz to get in the way of some quite wonderful roast and chocolate flavours. Upon reflection bubbles would have lifted this beer a touch as it gets a bit flabby as it warms up. Notwithstanding still pretty good.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap in Maltan care of TimE, Kanda. I understand this is usually called íMaltan Stoutí and is awesome when itís on cask. Unfortunately tonight itís only on keg. Still black sout with thin off white head. Taste is of cold black coffee, roasted grain. Finish is a bit buttery. Itís not in great shape. Will have to try and re-rate on cask to give it its dues.

Tap at Edobori Beer Belly. Dark brown/black with think beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, bit of coffee, kahlua. Taste is smooth and bitter, more chocolatey than it smells. Nice and drinkable.

Bottle. (notes from tasting session). Fruity stuff, with prunes, rotten raisins, and some citrus. Full, sweet, acid, salty. Some curious flavors. Almost no carbonation. Dry, sour finish, with chocolate. Long mild chocolate aftertaste, with coffee at the end.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Motor oil pour, opaque. Small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, cherries, coffee grounds, plastic. While this was a decent effort with a stiff coffee flavor, apparently "the Japanese palate" includes a love of esthers, plastic, and a hint of off-lactic flavoring if the commercial description is correct. This American palate shares no such taste. I got all excited when I saw the appearance, but this one is a bit of a miss.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black in Colour with light brown head. Roast Stout aroma with wheat. Strangly Carbonated for a Stout. frothy and creamy. Ashy burnt feeling is too powerful. Feels like burnt toast. Aftertaste is bitter. Changes in taste as you drink it. Carbonation goes down and chocolate comes out.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap @ Craft Hands, Shibuya, Tokyo, with TimE. Black color. Beige head. Aromaís: heavy roast, ground coffee, dark chocolate. Flavor is moccha-ish, lightly sweet, roasted. Body is on the thin side. Finishes roasty and just lightly bitter. Flavor doesnít live up to the aroma, otherwise this would have been great.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330ml bottle from Locals Liquor in Banff. Pours a deep murky brown with half inch of lasting tan head. Aroma is slightly oyster stout like with some faint milk chocolate notes. Taste is light roast malt, a hint of caramel, nuts. Somewhat thin mouthfeel. Finish is pleasant with nutty, roasted malt. Slightly tingling to the tongue despite very little carbonation evident in the glass. Decent.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Temma Beer Belly. It pours a classic inky black with a tan head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate with a hint of coffee. The flavor is slightly roasted or smokey sweet dark malts with a bit of a bitter coffee finish. Light body for the style but easy to drink.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle given to me by my cousin, she brought it back from Japan for me. Pours a dark brown/ black cola colour with a really carbonated/ bubbly tan head that tapers down to a small ring around the glass. No real lacing at all. Aroma is airy cold coffee. Taste is very light, a little coffee and roasted malt. Quite nice, aftertaste of like dark chocolate.
