A solid stout undone by the watery mouthful. I like my stout to be a bit thicker. perhaps good for those who are new to the style

Draught at Bakujun. Dark, creamy and with decent roasted malt nose. Low carbonation. Smooth, but a little too light in the mouth. A solid drop, but not a patch on their imperial stout.

On tap at Temma Beer Belly. It pours a classic inky black with a tan head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate with a hint of coffee. The flavor is slightly roasted or smokey sweet dark malts with a bit of a bitter coffee finish. Light body for the style but easy to drink.

33 cl bottle thanks to Ingo! Sampled on April 8, 2013. Marked (BB?) 13.01.30, purchased late December 2012.
Dark reddish brown color, big brown head. Acidic, roasted scent, coffee as well, way too acidic. Acidic, roasted, thin taste, not pleasant. Thin mouthfeel, low bitterness.
Did not finish my pour.

Tap at Beer Republic, Yokohama. Black colour with a small beige head. Slightly smoked flavour of chocolate, plum. A bit weak bodied. Flavour is rather bitter, chocolate.

Bottle. (notes from tasting session). Fruity stuff, with prunes, rotten raisins, and some citrus. Full, sweet, acid, salty. Some curious flavors. Almost no carbonation. Dry, sour finish, with chocolate. Long mild chocolate aftertaste, with coffee at the end.

sulawang (408) - British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 26, 2012
pours cola brown with minimal head and large CO2, not much CO2 activity, gunky sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Light roasted coffee though not fresh on the nose. Drinks fizzy up front, incoming sourness mixed with light-medium roast coffee, coffee beans, thin watery mouthfeel, transitions to an unbalanced citrus sourness (7/10), light coffee bitter finish. Low-medium complexity, medium depth, unacceptable transitions, okay carry, below average drinkability. Not exactly refreshing, rich, nor interesting, this doesn’t get a like.

330ml bottle pours black in color with a finger of biege head that settles to a thin ring on the surface with no discernable lacing. Aroma is coffee and roasted grains with a hint of chocolate and some herbal notes. Taste is roasted grains with coffee and chocolate with an earthy herbal finish. Medium to heavy body with plenty of carbonation that leaves a nice tingle on the tongue. A decent stout that is certainly unique and was a pleasure to have tasted.

On tap in Maltan care of TimE, Kanda. I understand this is usually called ’Maltan Stout’ and is awesome when it’s on cask. Unfortunately tonight it’s only on keg. Still black sout with thin off white head. Taste is of cold black coffee, roasted grain. Finish is a bit buttery. It’s not in great shape. Will have to try and re-rate on cask to give it its dues.

Tap at Edobori Beer Belly. Dark brown/black with think beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, bit of coffee, kahlua. Taste is smooth and bitter, more chocolatey than it smells. Nice and drinkable.
