The ancient legends that abound the Russian Imperial Stout of yore are filled with tempestuous romance, sinful thievery, and scurvy, too. So highly regarded was this historic recipe, the Russian Kings tried to keep it all to themselves. They failed. Today we bring you our own dastardly dark version, with a rich and roasty aroma, notes of plum and port and a velvety texture so luscious it just might make a grown man weep.

Pours a finger of dark brown head on a black body. The aroma is initially roasted malt and then cocoa. The taste is rich and buttery. Chocolate and toasted malt mostly with some toffee in the background. Really nice. The texture is super soft and smooth with low carbonation. Perfect. A great brew.

Bottle courtesy of "Mr.Plumpy". Colour...basic black with a thick tan head. Nose...dark brown sugar, sugar sirop and brownies. Palate...oaky, tannic and oozing with boozy goodness. There’s a bitter feel and plenty of dryness that’s loaded with chocolate and molasses. The finish is long and oaky.

Bomber , with Zach , finally back.... pours a thick dark black pour with a thin java head. Nose is sweet chocolate with some coffee, quite pleasing. Taste is sweet chocolate with a little alcohol breaking through. Taste is velvety, thick and smooth on the palate. Finishes on the same chocolate sweet fruity notes with a moderately long duration. Nice ! Quaff Score 8 / 10

Draft. Aromas of nice sweet roasted malts that give of more Nutella than dark chocolate with some brown sugar in there too. Nice full body with a medium finish. Almost no booze at serving temp but after it warmed up about 10 min it started to kick in. Very enjoyable and I think bottle aging this beer for a year would make for very enjoyable beer.

Bottle... Pitch black with a small, creamy, cappuccino head. Good retention. The nose is a marriage of fudge and toasted tree nuts – almonds and pistachios. Full-bodied with medium carbonation. The flavor furnishes a boatload of roasty bitterness flanked by lighter, sweet notes of caramel and chocolate. Finishes deeply roasted with a kiss of toffee that hangs around a while. Bottle courtesy of darkguardian!

12 oz bottle. Pour is motor oil black with a short lived milk chocolate head. Smell is sweet with chocolate and coffee with a hint of hops and booze. Taste is chocolatey sweet with a good note of coffee and spice. The bitter baker's chocolate really comes through with a faint hop profile and slightly boozy burn on the way down. Mouthfeel is thick and viscous, true to the style. Really good imperial stout.
