The ancient legends that abound the Russian Imperial Stout of yore are filled with tempestuous romance, sinful thievery, and scurvy, too. So highly regarded was this historic recipe, the Russian Kings tried to keep it all to themselves. They failed. Today we bring you our own dastardly dark version, with a rich and roasty aroma, notes of plum and port and a velvety texture so luscious it just might make a grown man weep.

Solid black with a decent chocolate head. Aroma is chocolate pudding, play doh, vanilla, chestnut. Thick and creamy mouthfeel, balance of sweet and bitter on the palate with a roasty bitter finish and a touch of booze. Taste is roasted almonds, cocoa, coffee, burnt sugar.

The nose has a bit of funk with smoked and roasted barley. The pallet has a bit of funk (wet blanket), bourbon and finishes with roasted barley. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aromas of charred wood, ash and molasses. Appears opaque black with a creamy brown head. The char and molasses follow into the taste but are tempered by sweet dark chocolate and cherry and fig flavors. The texture is very creamy but the charred component and possibly the hops cut through that a bit. The alcohol becomes evident mid-sip but is well received given the heavy flavors and textures here. Finishes with more chocolate sweetness, charred wood and a lasting bitterness. Very good Imperial stout if maybe a little heavy on the roasted malt.

The pour is a deep dark black wit a very thin mocha head that fades into some spotty lacing. The aroma is a delightful blend of roast and something semi-sweet. The flavor has a very nice complexity and the body is thick and chewy as a beer that’s close to 10% should. This is certainly a Russian Imperial and does not disappoint!

This is a great stout. The aromas consist of chocolate, liquorice, dark fruits, and just a bit hops. Tastes just like it smells. Pitch black with a tan/brown head that stuck around and left some decent lazing. Awesome brew.

Pours a solid black with a short brown head and lacing. It has a rich aroma of dark malt, chocolate, coffee, and some bourbon. The flavor is chocolate, coffee, and dark malt up front, with a bitter middle and slightly spicy aftertaste and mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at George Keeleys.. Pour is dark black with a nice tan head. Bitter chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit, roasted malts on the nose. Taste is a nice balance between sweet and bitter.. the sweetness of dates/prunes and the bitterness of chocolates and light coffee. Slightly oily in mouth. Nice liquorice aftertaste. Interesting stout.
