The ancient legends that abound the Russian Imperial Stout of yore are filled with tempestuous romance, sinful thievery, and scurvy, too. So highly regarded was this historic recipe, the Russian Kings tried to keep it all to themselves. They failed. Today we bring you our own dastardly dark version, with a rich and roasty aroma, notes of plum and port and a velvety texture so luscious it just might make a grown man weep.

22 oz. bottle to snifter. Pours dark oily black with faint red/brown hues and shows a reddish tan soapy head that dissipates to a wispy film and tight foamy collar. Aroma starts out with fig, plum and soy/peat like roasted malt and some signs of coffee. Taste is much like the aroma , but is more straight forward with the plum and soy/peat roasted malt and has a nice bitterness and subtle chocolate and coffee flavors. Palate is full and rich with a sticky dry finish. Really nice RIS with great complexity! I would buy this again and again @ $7.99 a bottle!

Chocolate aroma with a very nice port taste. Label is very true to actual taste. Does not pour much of a head at all. Dry finish. Fantastic brew!

Deep, malty aromas of molasses, toffee, roasted nuts and chocolate. Appearance is thick black with a decent sized foam. Complex flavors of smokey maple, chocolate, deep roasted coffee, and some thick caramel. Very rich chocolate yet, not overbearing. Big boozey sting on the finish. Overall, this is a delectable stout with intense malty flavors and strong alcohol presence. I’d give this an A+ rating.

12oz bottle. Medium brown head atop black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, cocoa, some molasses/caramel, roast, plum/raisin. Taste is moderately sweet, cocoa, vinous/plum, some roast, burnt, port. Smooth medium-full body -- alcohol noticeable but not unwelcome. Altogether a very nice take on the style.
