4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aromas of olives and tires with a a hint of cherry and chocolates - a bit on the acidic side. Heavily oaky and earthy flavor, and incredibly thick. Lingers on the palate for days. Meant to be drank by Russian Tzars and swashbuckling pirates

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rich roasted chocolate aroma. Pours thick and dark with a tan head. Good balanced flavors, sweet finish and the alcohol content is masked well.

Pour is black with a small tan lacing. Aroma is of dark fruits, red wine, coffee, earth, and roast. Flavor is similar but with more coffee and cocoa added in. Slight booze on the end.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle. No date. Opaque, black, viscous pour, with thin mocha head. Dessert like aromas of milk chocolate, vanilla cream, roasted marshmallows and coffee. Yum! Mouthfeel is a touch more carbonated then expected at first, though not terrible.. I personally think this would be even better with lower carbonation. Body is medium-plus to full-bodied, with a long finish. Flavors of roasted grain, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, bitter bakers chocolate, dark fruit, raisin, and vanilla linger on the palate. Pretty delicious stuff. Recommendable.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from a large bottle into a pint glass to drink. The beer had a fairly thick pour with a deep, solid black color without a hue, and a thinner, creamy, dark tan head that had shorter retention, with minimal cling, but good lacing. It had a rich, roasty aroma with strong notes of chocolate, plum, port, and some licorice and molasses. The taste was a strong sweet and bitter blend with a heavy roasty presence and flavors of coffee, chocolate, port, deep fruits, and some licorice and sugar. Its body was full and creamy with good carbonation and a thick, syrupy mouthfeel with a wet character. Thank you Siobhan for the Christmas present!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
April 27th, 2012 - Rounding out the full line of beer tastings at Mission Brewery is the descriptively titled “Dark Seas”, an Imperial Stout to nuke the taste buds and clean away the beers that came before it. The aroma is predictably dark, and rugged with the scents of soy sauce and charred beef. The flavor ups the ante, finding a healthy complexity with notes of licorice, plum and anise, with a palate thats heavy, but also gets out of the way in order to let the flavor do its thing. Bitterness and sweetness play off each other elegantly, making this a strong beer to end on.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
bottle, deep black pour with a thick brown head. Smells of coffee, chocolate and a bit of hops. Taste is too much coffee, with chocolate creamy taste in the beginning, medium to heavy body, dark bitter chocolate in the finish.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
My Bottom Line:
Evocative black chocolate evolves into roast and black beans in this tight, rich Imperial Stout.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam crowns the pure darkness.
-Discreet raisins also appear thanks to the specialty malt profile.
-Is there light smoke in here or am I in the mood for some?
-Miso allusions are also there.
-The nose could be more seductive, especially since the flavour profile shares such depths.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours a dark blackish brown with a tan head that has a dark brown blob of gunk in the middle of it... kind of unattractive, but whatever, it’s beer, right? Aromas are dense with roasted malt - coffee and chocolate with some peat and a little vanilla. Flavor is heavy with peat and smoke that hits hard and compliments the cream and vanilla underbody nicely. Very decent Imperial Stout and my favorite offering from Mission by far.
