The ancient legends that abound the Russian Imperial Stout of yore are filled with tempestuous romance, sinful thievery, and scurvy, too. So highly regarded was this historic recipe, the Russian Kings tried to keep it all to themselves. They failed. Today we bring you our own dastardly dark version, with a rich and roasty aroma, notes of plum and port and a velvety texture so luscious it just might make a grown man weep.

A good stout. Pours an incredibly deep black with a thick brown head. Smells of cream, chocolate and a bit of hops. Taste is chocolate all around, with some milk upfront, and dark bitter chocolate in the finish. Had in the bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours black with a thin head that fades to a ring and leaves oily webbing. Rich aroma of chocolate fudge, dark roasted coffee, dark fruit, licorice, and light caramel. Taste is intense. Mostly chocolate fudge and strong bitter roasted coffee but some licorice, smoke, and dark fruit show up in the finish. Mouthfeel has a slight chalkiness to it. Medium to thick body. Overall, a really nice, intense RIS.

Pours dark black with hefty mocha head. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, and maple syrup. Deep roasted coffee notes balanced perfectly with generous, though not bitter, hops makes for a beautiful beer.

12 oz. Bottle poured into a snifter. Pours pitch black with a nice finger and a half of a mocha head. The aroma is very nice, I get bittersweet chocolate, cocoa, licorice, some nice earthy character. The taste is lot of chocolate, a hint of coffee in the back end with a nice bitterness. I also get some sweet milky notes. Nice body on this one, very silky. Great overall beer.

Soild all the way, with a heavy emphasis on the palate with much dark flavor malts, toasted nuts, cocoa, caramel. spicy hops with the bitterness yet not overpowering, its an exception beer all the way. drink carefully.

Dark and oily. Aroma is roasted malt, soy sauce. Taste is the same. Overall, good stout, nice to drink, just pretty regular though. Nothing overly memorable.

22oz bottle - The beer pours out a black body with a 2" dark tan head. Aroma is baker’s chocolate, black licorice, toffee and a bit of dark fruit. Flavor has some medium sweetness, huge malt attack, a touch spicy and lightly vinous. A very nice example of an impy stout.

The aroma is very toasted, almost burnt, with molasses, coffee, and fruit. The appearance is dark brown almost black with a thin head. The taste is like the aroma with a burnt bitter finish. The palate is think. Overall a pretty good example of the style but way to bitter for me.

Tallahassee, Fl. - Whole Foods - 22 oz bomber, Pours a inky black with a slight purplish tint and a thick sticky mocha colored head. Aroma has some earthy potting soil, a hint of creosote. Flavor is full bodied and not overbearing. Nice chocolate undertones, touch of espresso, some potting soil and a hint of creosote. Silky smooth creamy mouthfeel. Mission is solid again.

Bottle @ home, thanks Vaiz!! Aroma is huge roasty liquorice, big molasses, roasty malt, coffee, mocca, some fruity and yeasty notes. Flavour is big roasty creamy chocolate bitterness, quite dry but very long lasting. Bitter roasty malt, ashy notes, this and that, great stuff.
