The ancient legends that abound the Russian Imperial Stout of yore are filled with tempestuous romance, sinful thievery, and scurvy, too. So highly regarded was this historic recipe, the Russian Kings tried to keep it all to themselves. They failed. Today we bring you our own dastardly dark version, with a rich and roasty aroma, notes of plum and port and a velvety texture so luscious it just might make a grown man weep.

This is the only imperial stout that can come close to competing with the Speedway Stout from Alesmith. Deep rich color with a toasted, nutty, malty finish.

Bottle. Pours a jet black beer with a small amount of light brownish head on top. Aroma has loads of molasses and licorice with laurel. Very strong and boozy aroma and flavor. Very sticky and sweet moutfeel, very cloying with loads and loads of molasses and sugar in there. Full bodied, long sweet sticky finish. A bit unbalanced, too sticky but still quite nice.

Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Sweetish earthy cold coffee and toast aftertaste with oily burnt mineraly notes. Lovely! Very smooth and harmonic. (0.355l bottle, I forget where from.)

Bottle. Stormy, turbulent and indeed dark. Huge light brown head. Fragrant with coffee and dark chocolate notes. This drinks with a bit of an ashy aspect, a boozy dark fruit twirl riding on top. (#6148, 2/29/2016)
