COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The ancient legends that abound the Russian Imperial Stout of yore are filled with tempestuous romance, sinful thievery, and scurvy, too. So highly regarded was this historic recipe, the Russian Kings tried to keep it all to themselves. They failed. Today we bring you our own dastardly dark version, with a rich and roasty aroma, notes of plum and port and a velvety texture so luscious it just might make a grown man weep.

Bottle thanks to my brother for my birthday! Pours an opaque black with thin ring of tan lace that doesn’t really stick. Aroma was grant on the booze or of the gate, but as it warmed chocolate and roasted malt came out nicely. Taste was chocolate with no real hint of the booze, coffee as it warmed up. Nice, nothing crazy but definitely solid.

Beer watching Seahawks Green Bay nfc championship game. Tastes of dark malts, large amount of espresso coffee and a aftertaste of chili flavor. Pretty great beer.

Although the head was somewhat lacking, the taste made up for it! There was a perfect balance of bitter, sweet, and smooth taste.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 4 Oct 2014) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, black coffee and liquorice. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, liquorice, dark chocolate, soy sauce, a touch of smoke and a generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Quite powerful, but very tasty and well balanced. Excellent beer!

22 ounce bottle purchased at Bel Air in Woodland, CA. The aroma is relatively mild and unassuming. Light sweetness with a little toffee and chocolate. Not much else present. Virtually opaque black body with a small, weak quickly dissipating brownish head. Starts with a bit of a roasted maltiness, becomes a little sweet in the middle. Finishes with really charry, burnt astringent bitterness. Very burnt and very dry. Hard to drink.

A nearly perfect Russian Imperial Stout. The only problem is a slightly soapy aftertaste. May be a fluke bottle.

Pours a very dark brown, nigh black, with a fairly thin tan head. Malty aroma with hints of vanilla. Taste is rich, smooth, and complex, like a good imperial stout should be. Notes of vanilla, coffee, and chocolate. A little sweet. This is very drinkable and is a solid example of the style. Thumbs up!

12 oz bottle. From alesbymail.co.uk.
This was behind my advent calendar door #19. Pitch black colour with a small mid-brown head. Roasted malt, vanilla, chocolate and mild alcohol in the aroma. The flavour is roasted malt, alcohol, dessert wine and coffee. Very rich. Nice brew.
