3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
"They seem to make an oddly high amount of german hefes in SoCal and this is one of em. All the usual suspects (banana, clove, bubble gum) in a yeasty refreshing package."

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Strong banana on the nose and hits you immediately with the flavors as well. Pours a nice off orange color. Not a ton of complexity but a decent beer with decent flavor profile.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very sweet, fruity aroma, I’m picking up banana. Pours cloudy orange with no head. Taste is sweet, hardly any bitterness or alcohol flavor.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
(bottle from Sparky, thanks!) Pours a pretty hazy gold color with a medium white head. Little lacing, but not much. Aroma is very close to being spot-on, and even though the description is knocking the lemon-laden pedestrian hefes in the market, a little bit of malicious lemon zest and pulp worms its way into the aroma for this beer as well. Other more welcome scents include, banana chip, bread dough, clove, and vanilla. Maybe some bubblegum too. The aroma is getting somewhat close to being as bombastic as Dancing Man Wheat, but in the end it lacks the firepower to push the olfactory into overdrive. Flavor also holds a bit of that maligned lemon, but other flavors include bartlett pear (to be more specific, it’s one of those bartletts you eat out of impatience that are about two days from achieving full ripeness where the skin still offers that subtle tartness), faint banana (really only towards the far finish does it flash), wheat bread, and a touch of vanilla. Mouthfeel is not very creamy but the carb is pretty much on. Overall a solid hefe that’s a bit underrated in my opinion.

2.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pour rises up into large fizzy head, but rapidly dissipates - almost no lace. Initially clear but murky after adding yeast from bottom of bottle. Nose of clove, over-ripe apples, mildly peppery phenols - very promising. Carbonation is a bit fizzy and rough, not creamy. It’s a bit unsettling. Flavor is yeasty and a bit quite sour with a bit of spiciness. Finish is dry with white pepper and lime. I like the beer. It is very refreshing. But when Mission Brewery says on the label that the beer is a "German-style wheat beer", I would have to say that Mission did not quite hit the mark for the hefeweizen (at least not how it is interpreted at this time.)

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Good label, cap, standard longneck. Wow, this is the perfect hefe appearance - looks like some kind of applesauce/banana baby food in the glass, with a short, thin white head. Good, slightly sweaty aroma -- starchy, a little funky, a little banana. Peppery up front, moderately tangy, various green/unripe fruit flavors - apple, pear, sloe. Mineral tones. Medium body, fine carbo, tangy green plum finish with a long bitterness on the side of the tongue in the aftertaste. This needs just a tad more sweetness, but it’s a rock-ribbed solid brew. I’ve liked everything that I’ve gotten from them. My two bits - Mission might be the next Cigar City, Sixpoint or Proof. ABC, Betton.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
April 27th, 2012 - Mission Brewery’s Hefeweizen followed the Blonde, which itself primed me for sweeter beers, and stuff much more sugary than the style would suggest. And the hefeweizen nicely follows suite. Cloudy, unfiltered, foggy, and blend of amber and yellow, it sits and looks like a hefeweizen should. On the nose is a ponderous layer of overripe banana, vanilla, fresh rain, cream and clove - a powerful mixture. and pretty pleasant. The flavor depth is immediately appreciable, but mellows to a long, long, long aftertaste, pushing bananas and vanilla wafers well into the aftertaste, and practically stacking it onto the next sip. The palate is unusually heavy for a hefeweizen, and that may come from unattenuated sugars, and it certainly explains why the palate and flavor give off a yolky, tapioca vibe. It’s on the dessert beer side of things, but if I recall, this is one of the beers I enjoyed from Mission, and one I’d try again (now that I am reviewing old notes and reminding myself of what I did and did not like.)

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a glass. Pours hazy deep golden with very small white head. Aroma is banana, medium body, well carbonated, and very little lacing. Taste is banana and grainy. Below average for me.
