COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our India Pale Ale exhibits a complex hop aroma, largely due to the generous usage of Cascade and Centennial hops, as well as a subtle malt character from the various malts used to achieve the wonderful balance exhibited in a world-class IPA. San Diego has become world renown for the wonderful and flavorful beers produced here – and India Pale Ales are no exception. Our national award winning interpretation of the style reflects both the history of IPA and the American variation of this distinct beverage. We hope you enjoy it! 66 IBU

Pours a clear golden color. Aroma is mild citrus. Taste is crisp with a little bitterness. Basically there isn’t much going on. Overall this is a very mild beer and that is not a good thing.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark gold body with a small frothy white head that faded to a wispy film. The nose is slightly citrusy and piney with a dry crackery and pale malt base. The flavor is moderately bitter with some grapefruit pith like notes. The malt base has a little sweetness to it, but it’s pretty well kept in check by the hops. Light bodied with soft fizzy carbonation and a light lingering bitterness. Pretty decent IPA, on the softer side for the style.

Shot (79) - Westerville, USA - FEB 28, 2014
Pours golden with a thick, creamy head. Aromas of citrus hops, pine and sweet malt. Flavors of grapefruit, pine, honey and vanilla. Lingering bitter orange hop bite in the finish with some bready notes. Medium mouthfeel; a little syrupy. Comes down a little heavy on the hops, even though it’s an IPA. Otherwise, nicely done.

April 27th, 2012 - Aha! I remember now. This was the beer that really changed the tone of the visit to Mission to something dark and ominously negative. This is the first IPA, to date, that I have ever smelled and detected cigarette smoke. Sure, there’s a bundle of hops in the nose too, but it really, actually smells like cigarette ash. I remember looking around to see if some nearby fiend was lighting up a cigarette in violation of Californian law and culture. Nope. That smell was coming from the beer, and made the prospect of a sip unappealing. But I had the sample in front of me, and as it often happens, I hoped that the flavor was radically different from the aroma. The radical shift doesn’t appear, but the flavor is blessedly different. The ash reappears as just an echo in the aftertaste, but most of the flavor relies on a generic hoppy note and a clear cashew taste that I recognize from another one of their beers. My drinking partner agreed on the tasting notes, for what it’s worth, so I don’t think I was having a seizure or neurologically confused moment. This was just a beer that had notes of tobacco ash. Never again.

From the bottle it has a bright yellow color in the glass with a medium head. It has a floral nose with some mild citrus. Taste is well balanced but not a big tatste. Mild bitterness with some citrus. Average beer.

Bottle at SlutFest 2011 on 04/23/2011. Clear golden body with a medium creamy off white head. Grainy and earthy hop aroma. Perfumy hop flavor with a dry earthy notes. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

I would have preferred a little more malt for balance. The flavor is dominated by citrus, especially grapefruit. Moderate bitterness. Not too much complexity. A good but not great IPA.

pours a hazy golden orange color, with only a half finger of white head, that dissipates quickly. smells of orange citrus, tangerine, pine, and a light malt character. taste is citrus, including orange peel and tangerine, some pine resin that lingers, i can taste the alcohol. overall, this is a strong west coast style IPA, i think they could have balanced the beer a little ore with the addition of more malt, and maybe different types of hops. i would buy it again.

Enjoyable; a session beer. Flavor was good and appearance was average. Altogether a good beer.
