A style of beer curiously born on the foggy shores of Father Junipero Serra’s first founding mission. Our own vigorous entry is one rebellious IPA, quick on the trigger, and brimming with a bounty of hop ingenuity. This is a big, bold, brazen beer, a restless vision of a new America.

My nose’s first thought is ‘candy’ but what kind, & now a ripe brie smell (probably simcoe hops as i just smelled some an hour ago making a batch of ale), a little pine & caramel—quite a mix. Drinking from a 32 oz can. Can’t escape the cheese in the flavor, the pine of hops & alcohol forming a bitter chord. Hazy orange yellow with moderate off white head. Light on the palate. A confused finish. Nasty, which isn’t the worst thing.

High alcohol. IPA meets malt liquor. Very citrus aroma with a fruity finish. Strong alcohol and malt base with a tingly orange body. Interesting.

Beer Bloggers Conference - San Diego - Golden amber in color, clear with a thin head. Nice easy drinking Double IPA, A little light in the extra hops needed to make a big IPA flavor.

Draft. Hazy golden amber color, fluffy white head. Nice aroma of citrus, peach, pineapple. Taste is fruity, malty, just a touch of bitterness at the finish.

Decent sized sample poured by the breweries Southern California Market Manager Jenny Ramos during a Beer and Indian food evening in The Clay Oven, irvine, Orange County on 14th July 2014. Red hue to this brew, the head off-white and clingy. Malty front in both the nose and taste, the hops are there as well though and come through loud and clear with a mild citrus feel to their flavouring. No expert on this style/type of beer but I liked this one.

Bottle from Archive Beer Boutique April 2013. A real tongue stripper this one with plenty of flavour and big hop dose and a bit alcohol kick in the finish.

Draught @ Pub Winston, Pienpanimo Olutjuhla. Pours a dark amber orange colour with a small head. Aroma of sweet caramel notes, bread and some gooseberry bush. Flavour of sweet malts, heavy caramel, gooseberries, bread, floral hops and some some grainy notes. Medium bodied. Alcohol warms. Not as fresh as it should be.

Flaske: Lysorange let diset øl med et stort skumhoved. Duften er diskret citrus og en smule agurk. Smagen er igen velhumlet let urtet med et fint humlebid. Ok øl.

Bottle @ Haket Pub. Golden with a small white head. Fruity and malty tones. Fruit, malt, alcohol and bitterness. Full body with a bitter sweet after taste.

Not my favorite double ipa. could be an old bottle for sure as it had some classic oxygenation aromas. hops were a bit astringent over a too malty, almost syrupy body. a bit of alcohol heat as well. i like mission breweries beers, so i’ll chalk this on up to poor storage and get a fresh one from the brewery next time i’m in town,
