A style of beer curiously born on the foggy shores of Father Junipero Serra’s first founding mission. Our own vigorous entry is one rebellious IPA, quick on the trigger, and brimming with a bounty of hop ingenuity. This is a big, bold, brazen beer, a restless vision of a new America.

Big can version. Nice appearance and good white head. Strange bitterness, somewhat dry finish. Not a citrus overtone like many D IPAs. Nice overall beer.

Hazy orange beer with an off white head. Aromas of citrus and some woodland scents. Tastes of pine hops, some spruce/floral earthiness, caramel malt, and grapefruit. Bittersweet finish. Excellent malt to hop balance. Lingering bitter notes after last sip. Tasty and refreshing.

Bottle at SlutFest 2011 on 04/23/2011. Clear golden amber body with a medium foamy off head. Floral and resiny hop aroma. Dry floral and resiny hop flavor with some pale malt. Medium body with moderately high carbonation.

Holy hell who decided double IPAs should be 32 ounce cans?!? Nose full of pithy citrus. Taste is hop flavor of citrus, lemon and orange. Not that bitter. Not that bad honestly.

Poured from a 946 mL can. Pours a big three fingers of head on a fairly clear dark straw colored body. The aroma is pine forest, lemon and tropical fruits. Very nice. The taste starts with bold pine bitterness, but moves to a mildly sweet pineapple flavor. It finishes with moderate lemon bitterness. Great profile and balance. The texture is softer with moderate carbonation. Complex flavor and drinkability make this a winner.

Floral and piney hoppy aroma. Pours can to glass with a thick whitish head, crystal clear copper. Strong hop flavors balanced with malt, string alcohol finish.

Ample aroma hitting me before appearance. Amber tan, slightly hazy. Fine white foam. Lots of pine, tangy citrus, resinous aromas. Sweet, bittersweet, biscuit sweetness, finishes sweet. Slightly tacky in feel. Dry this out, please. Definitely promising.

Huge 32 oz. can like a boss. Pours orange with spotty lacing and a tall white head. Smells pretty promising. I get grapefruit and resinous pine with token malts. Palate is full and carries the bitter flavor well. There’s plenty of bitterness, but not tons of developed hop flavor. I get grapefruit and very sharp evergreen. There’s a bit of alcohol burn too. Not bad, by any means, but there are countless better in the style. I like more hop complexity out of my double IPA’s.
