PorterPounder (5340) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - NOV 2, 2013
Tallahassee, Fl - Trader Joe’s - 22 oz bomber. Very dark brown pour, thick stick eggshell white colored head, thin coat of lacing. Aroma has some light chocolate accents, a hint of potting soil. Flavor is delightful with some nice chocolate undertones, a hint of potting soil, some hints of licorice and a touch of coffee in the back end. Mouthfeel, while not thin and watery is a bit too thin for the flavor - still a solid brown ale though. Well worth the $2.99 I paid for it!

Aurelius (4028) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - OCT 16, 2013
22 oz bomber from Trader Joe’s Tallahassee. Good label. Clear, ruddy brown beer with a huge tan head. Fine-grained, chainmail bubbles coat the sides of the glass as you tip it. Cool effect. Sweet, nutty aroma. Foam smells powdery and the hops come forward. Fairly hoppy for a brown, drier than it smells, lightly sweet, very slightly astringent, and a little milky perhaps. Roasty finish musters up what sweetness the beer has. Medium body, maybe even a bit on the lightish side. This was a pretty good value @ $2.99 for a bomber. Right up there with the Two Buck Chuck.

DrSilverworm (5899) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 8, 2013
22oz bottle from Trader Joe’s. Bottled 5/17/13. Clear, very dark red color. Thin, light brown head. Few dots of lace. Sweet taste, light bitter bite, spiciness in the finish. Pretty spicy aroma for a brown ale. Medium body. Lightly sticky texture. Lighter carbonation. Caramel malt, some spiciness, sugary syrup. Some light sweet artificial-tasting chocolate, some dark fruit. Too sweet, not very balanced brown ale.

Bottle from Trader Joe’s. Aroma of deeply roasted nuts, milk chocolate, cola. Flavor follows suit - very chocolatey, sweet, and roasty. Nice bitter finish, with notes of cocoa powder. For $2.29, can’t be beat.

Bomber->session. Medium brown with thick light tan head. A: caramel malt, nuts, grains. T: roasted and sweet malts, nuts, bread. Some unfortunate metallic tones bring down an otherwise nice brown ale.

Btl pours reddish brown clear color with a tan head that vanished quickly leaving some light lacing on glass. Smells of toasted nuts, cocoa and a little licorice. Tastes of sweet bread with raisins almost biscotti like, bakers cocoa and roasted nuts with a slight hop bitterness. Light to medium body with a thin texture and a dry finish and soft carbonation. A little watery but overall a good brown with nice melding flavors.

Bottle, 22oz. A clear-looking brown beer with a dense, light beige head leaving some lacings. The aroma is quite nutty, with roasted malts, caramel and some dark chocolate. Quite dry on the palate, with a plesant level of carbonation. Full body. There’s caramel, nuts and a decent bitterness in the flavor, lasting for a good while. A pretty decent brown ale, well worth a sip or three. 130821

shigadeyo (2973) - Harrison, Ohio, USA - AUG 1, 2013

7/03/2010: Mission St. Brown Ale... Aroma: Dark bread with a suggestion of coffee. Appearance: Dark amber to brown in color; clean appearance; thin beige foam on the surface. Flavor: Weak nuttiness; toasted bread crust; date-like sweetness; cocoa-dryness; out of place fruity quality; nothing really stands out. Palate: Medium-light; watery. Overall: WEAK; disappointing and quite boring.

Sample at Trader Joe’s in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rating #146 for this beer.
