4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 joefoodie (15) - USA - JUL 25, 2010
Not a typical hefe not much in the way of banana or clove, but lots of orange. Crisp, fruity, and really delicious. The 22 oz bottle from Trader Joe’s went fast - almost too fast.

Pours light and cloudy with a smallish head. Nice floral notes and a great light citrus taste. Pairs well with a hot summer day.

22 ounce bottle from Trader Joes in weizen glass. Cloudy orange with lasting dense white head and lace. Clovey aroma with banana bread. Orangey honey vanilla with wheaty tang and mild bitterness in clean finish. NIce effervescence and head retention. Very refreshing. Very good. Funny how Trader Joes "makes" two very good hefe weizens and most US brewers can’t even make one.

Bottle from Trader Joes in Nashville. Pours a cloudy orange amber with a white head. Banana clove and pale wheat malt aroma. Light bodied with that typical unfiltered mouthfeel. Flavor pale wheat malts, clove, and banana. Yeasty and refreshing finish. What you have here is a very nicely done and balanced Hefe. Erway is right.

First sip I thought "omg this is as good as SN Kellerweis". I may have to do a side-by-side comparison, but i believe this to be true. really nice big flavor out of this hef, tons of fruity goodness in the flavor and finish. finish tiny bit short but you can’t expect bitter from this style. great aromatics. only complaints are: maybe could be "yeastier" (this is just a personal preference). and the head was pretty small. 1.99 for a bomber of this? the ads are true: 1.99 for quality craft brew. don’t pass it up if you’re craving a good hef, would be good for a dollar more even. i also believe it to be better than the solace, by comparison solace is too sticky and sweet. this drank incredibly easy and super refreshing, perfect amount of sweetness. i hope this catches on, people deserve great beer for cheap. can’t wait to try more

Sampled in a 22oz. Pours light brown and cloudy. The flavor is really nice. Full of tons of wheat and richness. Yeast levels are appropriate and not overbearing. Great brew.

22oz bottle from the local TJ’s, bottled five days ago. Why can’t the pale ale ever be this fresh? This just completely nails the style, and it’s easy to see how Firestone won the World Beer Cup with it this year. Pours a hazy to opaque deep gold to orange color with a big frothy white head. Properly restrained weizen yeast character in the aroma with lots of citrus, fresh baked bread, and supporting clove and slightly under-ripe banana. The flavor nails the ester-phenol balance without going over the top. There is lots of vivid fruit character (banana, persimmon) bit the finish isn’t at all sweet or cloying like many American renditions. Refreshing and dry, but with a filling and soft texture. An awesome summer session beer. I just hope people buy enough of this to keep it fresh on the shelves.

Bomber from Trader Joe’s. Deep yellow pour with a thick moussey white head. The nose is loaded with bright banana and melon as well as a lot of spicy wheat character. Thick body with a nice fruity finish. There is a sort of sweet spicy character. The beer is very cheap and hits all of the right notes. There’s not a whole lot to complain about here.
