2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
This beer smells good. Based on smell alone I was all expecting a nice treat considering the price of this beer. Unfortunately fresh woodsy smell doesn’t translate to the flavor. It has an oily thin lacing and pours a light amber color that i would expect more from a pale ale. The taste is muddled. The hops are present, but they remind me of the hop pellets i used to use when home brewing. The mouthfeel is yeasty and gross. I won’t be buying this one in the future.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Trader Joe’s. Aroma is bready malt base with fruity hops, mild pine and resin. Appearance is minimally hazy light brown with attractive sparkle, finger-width white fizzy head with decent retention and lacing. Taste is mix of sweet and bitter fruit and bread. Palate is medium bodied with thick texture and average to lively carbonation and dry, bitter fruity finish. Overall, some complexity but not overly so; lasting impact of hops is more for bittering than flavor.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Hazy golden body with a off-white, frothy head. Aroma of citrus, pine, resin, caramel. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Lingering bitterness and resin taste along with grapefruit rind, citrus. Short of a resin bomb because of the malt backbone.

Lots of flavor (bitter) in this beer.
I had this side-by-side with a Mission St. Pale Ale, and I liked the stronger, bitter flavor in the IPA better: big surprise. This is a solid IPA.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Whoa. For an IPA you can get on the cheap (thanks Trader Joe’s), Mission Street is a damn fine creation. Mission Street pours amber-orange with a frothy off-white head. Aroma is dank with hops, but you can still detect the caramel malt. Taste follows the aroma. Sweet malt, citrusy hops (grapefruit juice, orange peel, orange juice, lime), and pine. Allegedly, Firestone Walker brews this for TJ’s distribution. If that’s the case, I can definitely see why this brew is excellent. If not, it’s solid piece of craftsmanship. Next time, I’ll just get a six-pack...

Deep golden with a white head - hoppy aroma with fruits and citrus - Good malt to support a good hop flavour with citrus and hints of pine - Hop finish with citrus that ends dry - This was good

Hazy gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is light and minerally crisp. Very light and sweetish malt. A lovely floralness that carries mild violets and a touch of candy fruits. Hops are medium orange and orange pith with lesser grapefruit and pine. Smooth finish. Noble hop like spicy linger. Lovely, lots going on and super drinkable.

For some reason when I shop at TJ’s, the IPA is always out. This time, for $5.99 a six-pack and it’s on the shelf..yeah....a no-brainer. To the beer starts out with a nice sniff of hops. Nothing really specific or that I could zero in on, just hops. It’s rather odd that nothing really stands out, but it’s like smelling a bag of hops just taken out of the cooler. Flavor has medium bitterness to it, with a very light (thank you) crystal malt profile. The guys at Firestone let the hops be the star, and the beer is better because of it. The malts are there, make no mistake and it’s a bready-like sweetness to it. Mouthfeel is nice, evenly balanced. Nothing to get worked-up over, but a solidly built beer, easy to enjoy on a warm March afternoon and the price is oh-so right.
