Commercial Description:
Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan." In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.

A- Dark brown with a nice big, thick and chunky head. Not nearly as dark as I was excepting for something called Mississippi Mud but looks good none the less. S- The smell is sweet, slightly floral with a bit of a mettalic tinge. I have no idea what to expect from such a mild smell. T- The taste is very light and slightly sweet. Maybe I have the name in my head too much but I could swear there is a slight muddy dirt taste with a metallic aftertaste. While it’s not quite as bad tasting as the description i’ve provided I certainly did not enjoy it. Very little flavor and the flavor it did have rubbed me the wrong way. M- This brew is thin and fizzy. D- I suppose this is fairly drinkable since it is so light but it definitely doesnt leave me running back for more.

Porters aren’t my thing but this was nice in that the coffee flavour was toned down for more sweet flavours. Addin the lighter beer definitely helps the porter go down smoother. Give me a Beamish any day over this.

My wife picked up a large jug of this while on a business trip to St. Louis....while black and tans are not my usual choice, I found that I really enjoyed this one.......the beer poured a dark brown, similar to a newcastle brown ale.....this beer tasted surpisingly light and satisfying....the sweet chocolate/caramel notes accompanied the roasted malts beautifully....not one I could drink a lot of, but a nice beer to have for a change.

Dark brown with small head. Nose and flavor of roasty malts, molasses, and chocolate. Watery for a porter.

Smells like a wet dog - Light, effervescent body, sweet toasted malt with some honey, butterscotch and toffee - - - kind of grainy and chewy. Light banana notes as well. Thin but with a moderate cara-pils, sarsaparilla mouthfeel. Better than expected and quite a value for the price.
