Commercial Description:
Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan." In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.

Honestly, I can’t explain this beers bad rating at all. Very soda-ish in appearance, but with a pleasant aroma. Maltier and nuttier than any B & T I’ve had, but I like it. Malt at the beginning and nuts in the finish. A nice, unique brew with a cool bottle. Humorous that it’s made in NY.

A very good beer. It is full bodied and full flavored. It pours witha nice head. The taste is very complex. Malty, Hops, Sweet, almost a chocolate flavor. The palate is covered, by it’s thickness. And the color of this beer is very nice.

Very interesting jug of a bottle. Dark amber color with a medium white head that diminished slowly. Medium malt and sweet aroma. Medium body. Medium flavor of roasted malt and sweet with a short finish. Below average combo.

Bottled in a big-ass hillbilly jug. Dark amber with a medium-sized white, frothy head that is mostly diminishing. Cereal grains, alcohol, sourdough bread aroma. Stale bread flavor through and through and mildly sour with some lightly roasty malt and honey. Very stale. Watery, thin palate with low carbonation.

Combine an average to bad pilsner, with an average to bad porter and what do you get? Apparently you get the Mississippi Mud Black and Tan. It pours a beautiful chestnut brown color with a large, creamy beige head that leaves good lacing. This is were the superlatives end. Aroma is moderately malty with a little of the roastiness I expect in a porter and some of the soapiness I expect in a pilsner and decent floral hop notes - passable. However the flavor is just downright bad, metallic, soapy and a little bit of a burnt taste mixed in with a corn finish. Light body and little carbonation. I saved the bottle for maple syrup and poured out the rest of the beer.

Bottle--Well the bottle’s cool, but the beer is average to a touch below average. Amber color with mostly a lager taste.

Forgot to rate this. Never poured it out of the jug so no idea on appearance. Hint of roast, but dominated by the lager taste, which is bad. It’s poorly balanced. If you’ve ever messed up making a black and tan with 2 average beers, you get Mississippi Mud.

pours light reddish brown with a small off white head, aroma of chocolate and carmel and some roasted malts. the taste was of a little weak carmel and spices and a little watery, a dissapointment and a slightly better than average beer.
